"Self defense means nothing!"

Legally, “self-defense†is just a defense to prosecution for murder. Outside of “right-to-carry†states you are generally not allowed to prepare for self-defense, especially when you are away from your own home.

That's one of the stupidest things I've ever read in my life!

Nebraska has no concealed-carry laws. If you have a handgun with you in your car, it jolly well better be in plain sight on the car seat or above the dash or you will be charged with carrying a concealed weapon. Glove boxes and console caches are NOT in plain sight.

Balog, until Texas passed its CHL law, you could not at all carry a handgun for self defense except via the court precedents about being a "traveller" (defined as being out of one's home county, overnight).

While California has a CHL law, they hate to issue them to the ordinary folks who make up some 99.99% of the population. So, how do you prepare for self-defense in that state, during times of need? I think it's some 37 or so states, total, with CHL laws. Vermont, you don't need one. Try carrying for self-defense in NYC...

What many find interesting is the increase in numbers of states with CHL laws, in the face of increasing federal hostility toward armed citizens.
