Heck no, your Garand and your bolt gun are going to end up liking different ammo anyway, so what is the point in making them the same caliber? I actually avoid having two of the same caliber for that reason. Owned three 7mm Rem Mags, they never could agree on a load, so I sold two of them and never regretted it.

I have a bunch of rifles in .223, including a Ruger #1V, Tikka T3 Lite, H&R Handy Rifle, an AR with a match chamber, and several mil-spec ARs with chrome lined barrels. The Ruger will only perform with one load which involves a Lee collet die, H335, Winchester brass, and a 50 gr. VMAX (yes, it is a picky eater). The Tikka will not chamber brass shot out of the Ruger unless it is small base sized.

Bottom line is that I have to maintain 4 different inventories of .223 brass. So it is practically the same as having 4 different chamberings.
