Hey guys,

I just bought 300 rounds of Sellier & Bellot FMJ .38 spl from Cabela's online.

I mean...I already bought it, but I would like to know your opinions on this ammunition. Is it ok for 15.99 per box of 50? Any reliability issues? Dirty?

Thanks in advance,

Cutter

Yes, it is dirty. Reliable? -I have never had a dud round and I must have fired close to 10K rounds of pistol and near 300 12ga buck over the years.

Practice is fine, for SD/HD? I'd prefer something else.

Good stuff, in my experience. Mostly 9mm. I've never found it dirty.

I shoot S&B 115gr FMJ 9mm. It is cleaner than WWB which I've shot too (about 50 rounds two days ago).

Shot S&B for years. Not a single problem. I still have 9mm boxes that I paid 4.99 for.

I have never had but one box of 9mm but I liked it and like Inlreloader said no dirtier that WWB and last I bought was just as cheap. It's hard to get right now but wouldn't hesitate to use it if I could find it.

I've used S&B .223 Rem, .30 Carbine, .25 ACP, .32 ACP, 9 MM and .38 SPL and never had a problem with any of it. Can't really say it was dirtier or cleaner than any other ammo.
At the end of the day you've got to clean the guns anyway. :)

i've had some problems with the .38spl ammo of S&B, most other calibers are fine. Case tears in about 50% of shots fired.

yours may differ

I use S&B as my defensive loading in 38 spl and in 32 acp. I find it to be really high quality stuff... and not any dirtier than any other decent ammo. I like their 158g JSP in 38, and their 73g FMJ in 32. They load a bit hotter than domestic ammo so I see no need for +P when using it. It has been as reliable and accurate as the "premium" ammo that costs 2.5 times as much.

I've heard that S&B makes rounds for company's such as Winchester and Remington( when they have large orders to fill). I have personally used it with good results and no more "dirt" than any other round on the market.

I've always had good results with S&B ammo.

HOWEVER, one round in a box of .45acp had the bullet seated far too deep into the casing.

I'm really glad I always check ammo when I buy a box.

Cutter,

When Sellier & Bellot first showed up on the market I tried it in my .40 Ruger P91. The only good thing I can say about that trial is it tested the reliability of the Ruger. It was very dirty and gave poor accuracy. But recently I have tried the S&B 7.62X25 Tokarev with very good results. It has been clean burning and is giving good accuracy in my CZ52. I believe S&B has greatly improved there products and you will be satisfied with your purchase.

"...Dirty?..." That doesn't matter if it shoots well out of your revolver.
You should try a box before you buy in bulk. S&B makes good brass though, so if nothing else you have some screwing around ammo with good brass for reloading.

I commonly buy it for my old Colt in .32 ACP. Have also shot plenty of it in 7.62x25, .380 ACP, 9mm, .357 Magnum and .45 ACP. Never a single problem and never noticed any additional residual schmutz on the guns.

The S&B 9mm seems to be a bit underpowered. In my GLOCK .40 to 9mm conversion it doesn't have enough punch to reliably cycle the slide - where every other ammo manufacturer I've tried hasn't had an issue.

Try the S&B 115 gr FMJ (SBA00902). It's not under powered, 1280 fps muzzle. It should cycle the slide just fine.
