On my last trip to J&G Sales in Prescott, AZ, I discovered that they are carrying the cheapest ammo for my .300WM. They carry Sellier & Bellot ammo loaded with a 180 gr ballistic hollow point called the PTS for $24 a box. That's cheaper than I can buy the Remington ammo at Wal-Mart. I can't load decent rounds for much less than that (using premium bullets and new cases).

Checking S&B's website...

Sellier&Bellot

...I found they are also loading ammo with Barnes X-Bullets and Tripleshock bullets, as well as Sierra Gamekings, all available in .300WM. I haven't checked prices on those yet.

So, anyone have any experience with the S&B ammo with the PTS bullet (any caliber). If you did, how's the performance?

Haven't shot any of it, but I'll sure be looking into it. It sounds like it might be as good as the old Core Lokts I shot now.

I've shot S&B in 7.62x54R.

Decent accuracy, but I noticed it was flattening primers and flowing pretty badly, did this in 3 separate rifles using the same box of ammo.

Made me kinda nervous, haven't tried it since.

I was just looking at the J&G website. They are saying that the PTS bullet is the Hornady SST bullet. I'm not sure if that's true, though. If so, it isn't mentioned on S&B's website, that I could find.

S&B is great ammo, just use caution reloading some calibers, like .303 (ask me how I know!).

just a general statement about S&B ammo, I've used it in 22 hornet, 223, 243, and 357 magnum. I think it's the best inexpensive ammo available and have never, ever had one issue with it.

I run S&B through a couple of bolt action 223's. Been good so far. Reload the cases, neck sizing only, and seems they will reload until the primer pockets get worn out.

shinz, I load .303 mainly bcause the availability of GOOD .303 is poor here these days.

I have reloaded S&B, but I have found that the cases streach excessivly, especially at the base. I have gotten 3 reloads with S&B maximum and all cases have failed (over 100 cases). Case head seperation is not such a big deal with the tapered cases though. Easy to retrieve the bad case. I think the case head seperation on .303 is due to the design of that case by S&B. The case wall is very thin about 3/8" up from the base.

I have Remington cases (purchased new) that have now been loaded 7 times and I have not had any case head seperations (I would include HXP, Winchester, Federal, and Hot Shot in the unfailed group). The only problem has been with S&B. I really do like the S&B ammo though.

I only neck size, as I only shoot one of my #4mk1 Enfields, so I am not working the brass excessivly. I have read other posts about issues with S&B. Also, the primer pocket is a bit shallow, so the primers don't seat flush usually. Otherwise, all has been great!

I can buy brand new Winchester cases for my .300WM at the gun shop just down the road, so I'm not really worried about reloading them. My main question is performance in the field.

Doug, Thanks for that, good post, you cut every question that developed as I read it off at the pass. Sounds like their 303 is one I can afford to miss. I'm about to try some S&B in 7x64 so hope that my experience with this is as positive as other posters.
