Okay, so I'm looking to move my 3" XD9.

I've checked with a few local gun shops and I they're all giving lowball offers. To be expected I guess.

I'm nervous about selling it in the newspaper.

What other options are available for private sale?

I mean, the gun is in prime shape, has probably fired no more than 400 rounds. Comes with two 10rd and a 15rd w/XD extension. Thoughts?

Thanks!

Robert

First, where you at? If your state requires all gun sales be made through an FFL dealer, then the way to get the most $$ would be to consign the gun with a shop as L.H. mentioned...but if your asking price is too steep, the gun may not move right away - all depends on how fast you need to turn it around for the cash.

If your state allows private gun sales, you could take it with you to the next gun show you go to, and make a little sign to tape to your back as you walk around listing the gun and all the goodies, with your asking price...and be prepared to haggle. Who knows, you may even be able to use your XD9SC to trade for something else you want, +/- cash to make up any difference.

If you do sell your pistol face-to-face to a non-FFL, make absolutely sure your buyer is a resident of your state(don't be shy about asking for ID) - this is to comply with Federal law. For peace of mind, I also suggest asking for a valid CCW permit(if such exist in your jurisdiction), as this can be accepted as proof of a clean criminal history(it wouldn't be issued otherwise). Also consider making out a bill of sale(hand-written should be fine) to include your buyer's identifying information(name and address should suffice). If a buyer balks at any of this, walk away - it's not worth the possibility of your gun being bought by a criminal or other prohibited possessor, or of your being busted by the local PD or the ATF.
