Okay guys, after reading all the Glock vs. XD threads I've decided to give the XD9 a try...but now I'm trying to decide on the 3" SubCompact version or the 4" Service model.

How accurate is the 3" vs. the 4"? Is there much of a difference? Also, is it possible, and are there any holsters available for concealing the 3" SC on the ankle?

I just sent off for my CCW today and I'm looking for a good carry weapon. Please do NOT post anything about Glock, I'm only interested in the XD9 at this time. Thanks in advance for your help!

XD9/SC is as accurate as it needs to be for its size (and then some). Mine has never even hiccuped, in about 1500 rounds. Everyone who's fired it likes it.

It's not an "exciting" pistol --- it just keeps on doing what it's designed to do ... :D

What about ankle carry?

If I can get away with a 4" Service model, I will. Is it possible and practical to ankle carry the 4" Service model? The more I think about it, the more this mode of carry appeals to me. I almost always wear pants so this would be perfect.

I have both and the SC is definitely easier to conceal... it is an excellent and Very Accurate CCW weapon.

Another great thing about the SC is that you can CCW with the standard SC magazine or carry and shoot with the hi-cap service model mags with the grip extenders in place if you choose. It makes it a 'convertible' carry weapon - kind of like the New XD-45 Full-Size Compact.

Galco makes an Ankle Glove Retention Strap Ankle Holster for the XDSC.

Fobus makes the SP11BA Ankle Holster for the XDSC that doubles for the PT Mil Pro series.

P.S. - the 4" Service model is NOT an ankle gun - at least not for me ;-)

i have experience with the xd40 service and the sc .40 but not the 9mm's, but i can tell you i have had the sc for 1/4 of the time i have had the service model and i like the sc better, it points better, is better balanced and is ompact, but is still able to be fitted with the larger capacity mgazines.

as far as accuracy, you will see an improvement in the accuracy as the trigger gets broken in over time they get sweet after about 500rds, and smmoth as butter after 1000rds or so. they are awesome guns either one, my sc is almost identical in the accuracy epartment out to about 15yds and then it starts opening uop the shot groups but it is plenty accurate for the intended purpose of the gun.

and you would think that recoil in the sc's would be a big deal but i honestly can't tell a difference in my two at all. let us know whay you decide!

Good Stuff Guys

Thanks for all your replies so far. I think I'm leaning towards the XD9SC as it sounds like a pretty good little gun. Either way, it will be probably several months before I will be able to buy one. I've got some debt to pay off and my next purchase was going to be a camera lens (about the same cost as an XD9). Maybe I need to change this thread to "XD9 or Camera Lens?".

XD9 Sub is accurate

I rented the XD9 SC earlier this week. It is an accurate pistol. I'm a natural left-handed shooter. I try to practice shooting right-handed once in a while. While shooting right-handed with the XD9 SC, I actually shot better than my left hand by putting five-rounds into a 2½" group with three rounds going through the same hole at 12-feet slow fire. Most groups at that distance were 3 to 4 inch groups. Rapid fire was accurate enough to hit center mass every time. Nice piece.
