This is my first time selling a gun and I need some advice. I have a CZ 40B in good condition with the original plastic case and box with a cable lock, ammo loader, 2 magazines, a kydex Fist adjustable cant IWB holster ($60 new), and a leather Galco Concealable belt holster ($100 new). I paid over $500 for everything, would asking $400 be fair? I'm looking to replace this one with a Springfield XD 40 4" and would like to recoup costs as much as possible.

Thanks!

I would never sell my CZ-40B. It is one of the most accurate and reliable pistols I own. That being said, $400 is a bit low with the holsters. I have not seen a CZ-40B with one mag sell for less than $400 in the last few months. I would suggest you sell the pistol separate from the two holsters at an internet auction website like www.gunbroker.com Three separate auctions (pistol w/ mags, fist holster and Galco holster) would yield the most cash for only a little more effort on your part when it came to packaging and shipping.

I wouldn't sell my 40B either. The 40B is one of the best and most reliable pistols CZ makes and that's saying a lot. I certainly wouldn't give it up for a Springfield XD but if you must I would ask at least $400 for the pistol alone if its in like new condition.

Selling on Gunbroker would be the way, have a starting price, see what it gets up to...
I agree the price alone for the pistol at $400 is least to take, make it $500 for the lot...Starting bid, and good luck:)

Thanks for the replies! I have been really happy with my 40B, it's a great pistol, but I'm doing this mainly because the 40B has a very sharp profile, especially the butt of it, and concealing it has proven difficult for me. It really is a big gun, at 8.1" long and 5.4" tall (and heavy). I would totally keep it if I had the money to have a great range gun plus a carry gun. But the wife would never go for it, she'd rather I diversify, put money into an assault rifle or shotgun.

So I'm looking for a (smaller) carry gun for about $400 - $500 and the XD fits the bill. It's comfortably smaller at 7" long and 4.75" tall (and it's edges are softer). I also want a gun with a higher mag capacity than the 40B's 10+1, the XD has 12+1 and if I'm not mistaken, even more if you get the optional mag extender. Plus with the XD's safety mechanisms I feel it's safely more efficient to carry locked and loaded and not have to worry about flipping the safety off when drawing.

Sorry this turned out like I'm an Springfield salesman, but those are the reasons I'm "switching". :)

I live in Mesa, AZ and Scottsdale Gun Club has an XD .40 4" barrel for $458.99—so tempting. Plus with Springfield's special they're running right now I can get three magazines and another magazine pouch for free if I buy from a shop, not privately.

I'm not super familiar with all the different types of guns and their prices so if anyone has any other suggestions, I'm listening. :) My requirements are: economical, not huge/not tiny, easy to carry, .40 cal, decent capacity mags (for a .40).

Okay I just found out that the gun show is coming in a week and a half. Should I sell on an auction website or sell at the gun show? How would I go about doing that? Tape a sign on my back?

Some people tape a sign to their back or put one on the gun case and carry it around. You might very well sell it at the gun show but a word of warning, a lot of the vendors there will want to see it and offer you an insultingly low price for it. Don't waste your time with the vendors and concentrate on the people who come to the show. However, they probably will also be looking for a good deal so be prepared to negotiate or walk away from the sale.

Also, you may want to keep the holsters and see if they will fit your Springfield XD.

A CZ 40B this week sold on Gunbroker for $331 so anything above $350 would be a stretch.
