My new favorite pistol...the CZ 40B

I picked up a LNIB CZ 40B for less than $300 otd several weeks ago. I was impressed by the quality for the priceCZ's are seriosly under rated!!! My only modification to the pistol is the addition of a hogue handall in order to fill out the grip. That plus a couple for 12 round mecgar mag and I'm ready to roll!

I have had it out to the range twice and put 100 rounds of 165gr cast reloads, 100 rounds of 180gr american eagle FMJ and 50 rounds of magtech 155 JHP through it. Not a single problem. It eats everything I feed it. Once my sampler pack from Doubletap arrives I plan on picking a carry round.

Icant stress the accuracy of this pistol. It will out shoot 2 of my 3 SIGs! Only my VERY well used P220 will consistently give me a smaller group.

I cant believe that CDNN has these selling for $285! If CDNN sold to NY residents I would pick up another 40B! This has got to be one of the most under rated .40's on the market today. I may have found my new CCW

I also love the CZ and find the only shortcoming to be the lack of hi cap mags.

I owned a CZ 40B almost 2yrs ago. I liked it, but didn't love it. Liked the grip, weight, look of it, but wasn't crazy about the caliber. My groupings were never as good as I wanted them, bought an XD 40 and figured out it was the caliber(for me) and not the gun that I didn't like and sold the XD as well. I now shoot a 1911 in 45acp and am much happier. When I did own the CZ 40B, I put some custom grips on it from Hakan Pek. Beautiful grips that really set the gun apart from the crowd.

I had heard about the horrible recoil of the .40, LOL I find it to be VERY tame...on par with .45 from my P220. I like the added 4 rounds (13 vs 9) of the CZ campared to my SIG.

As the owner/shooter or a CZ40B, I consider it one of those that CZ should still be manufacturing. The design was a collaboration between Colt and CZ. When Colt backed out, there were parts for about 700 pistols to be manufactured between the CZ40B and the Colt Z40.

I find the alloy frame transmits the majority of the recoil right into the base of my right thumb, and after a while that gets old. I picked up some Mec-Gar 12-round mags that were also listed for the CZ75B in .40 S&W, and those feed and fit just perfect. Somebody at CZ had their head on straight and did a bit of parts-bin engineering to make sure we were thought of (maybe the fellow that gave us the CZ75 SemiCompact).

I wouldn't say "horrible recoil", it's "snappy". I wouldn't put it in the same league as a 45acp. To me, the 45acp is more of a push, whereas the .40 seemed, like I said, snappy. Follow up shots were no where near as quick to get sight back on as with my 1911, either. YMMV. I don't mean to get ppl's ire up, as with other posts ppl who own a .40 get very defensive. I only put out what my experience has been. Another problem was, finding ammo. When I did find it, it wasn't too much less expensive then the 45acp. I now reload, so that wouldn't be a problem for me.

sparkyguy I agree with the snappy part! I had a mak that was VERY snappy for such a relativley small cartridge.

i had one cz 40, but whenever i slammed the magazine in, it would dump all the rounds on the ground, it loved speer lawman.

The Frakengun CZ40P is also a good way to get into a
CZ at a good price.

I purchased a 40B when they first became available.


The gun proved reliable and accurate.

Hakan grips, hi-caps and PT Nites were added along the way.

I always thought that one could convert a 40B to SA, just never seen one before yours.

i figured that since everything else i bought for it was CZ-75, i ordered theSA trigger anyways and lo and behold, the trigger dropped right in. :shrug:

only real thing you have to do is adjust the overtravel and reset screws. both can be done easily. the overtravel through the trigger guard using the short side of an allen wrench, and the reset by removing the slide and using the long end of the allen wrench.

if you've had the gun apart for a trigger job before, you can have the new trigger installed in less than 10 minutes, if even that. the only "fitting" i had to do was sanding the top part where the trigger pin goes through, because it moved a little stiff in the frame like it was too fat.
