Hello, I carry daily a revolver in a Renegade ankle holster. Most frequently it is a Smith and Wesson, model 442 ("blued" Airweight Centennial). If not the 442, I carry in my Renegade ankle holster a S&W 640-1 or Ruger SP101 (bobbed hammer). FWIW, I am not bothered by the weight of the SP101 (~25-27 oz). The primary reason I don't wear it more often is because of the grip size--I currently have a Hogue Monogrip on it, and it is a bit long and sometimes prints when it is extremely windy out.

I am in the market for a semi-auto ankle gun. I would prefer it be 9mm or above. The only gun I currently own that might even conceivably be suitable for the job is a Sig P239 in 9mm. The height of the 239 is only a millimeter or so taller than the 442 sporting Pachmayr Compacs. Although I don't have an ankle holster to test it in, I think it MAY be okay. Experience anyone?

But, as always, I would like to keep an open mind. What other popular semi-autos are often serving ankle duty? This would be a primary during work, and possibly a backup outside of work.

Thanks!

I carry a Glock 26 in an ankle holster at times in a DeSantis ankle holster. I wouldn't worry about printing a little at times. Not many people are looking at your ankles. the only other 9MM I've carried in an ankle holster was a SW 6906. It was almost too big. You might want to look at Kahrs.

I put in my vote for a Glock 26/27. I used to carry my G26 on my ankle all the time in a Galco Ankle Glove and it was a great setup.

I used to carry a Kel Tec P-11, but I upgraded to a Glock 27 now. In the ankle holster, I forget it's even there.

kahr pm9/mk9
keltec p11/pf9
rohrbaugh $$9

FIrst choice is always GLOCK, just don't know how that's going to work out on your ankle if your sp101 is printing. That's the 2 1/4" bobbed version?

Thanks for the responses guys. Yes, it is the 2.25" bobbed version. It's only the end of the grip that prints sometimes.

Some people don't like them but I have an AMT backup 45acp that have not had any problems with. Mine loves hollow points. I don't carry in an ankle holser though, usually just in my pocket.

You can also check out the Para Ordnance Warthog in .45 ACP. It holds ten rounds of .45 in a short double stack magazine. The width also helps with gripping the small gun.

I don't think I'd wear my P239 on my ankle. A bit too heavy for that, IMO. Nice weapon, though better suited to IWB for me.

Ankle carry, I'd go for a Kahr PM9. Very slim and light.
