I bought a used Taurus PT-111 Pro last year. It came without any paperwork and with one magazine. The last hole on the mag was stamped 12 yet it will hold only 10 rounds. I searched the NET for replacement mags and found a site that sells original Taurus mags and bought 2. They were only offering 10 round mags at the time so that's what I ordered. Both the original mag that's marked 12 and the 10 round replacement mags are the same exact size. Can someone tell me how both the 10 and 12 round mags could be the same size and why a mag marked 12 will hold only 10 rounds.

I took the mag that was marked 12 apart and there was nothing but the magazine follower, spring and spring plate inside. There was no spacer to limit the number of rounds like I expected.

Is it possible that the original is really only a 10 round magazine which was errantly marked 12? That's my guess since it is the same exact size and height as the two 10 round mags I bought.

It could happen, long before Taurus got a handle on QC I very well
could see this happening. Nowday's, its doubtful. One thing is for
sure, if it was marked as 12 round magazines, but only hold 10
the fine folks at Taurus International will make it good. Write 'em
a detailed letter explaining the problem, and ship the magazines
to them by Parcel Post insured. I don't think you will have any
problems getting your magazines replaced. Sorry, but I don't
have a contact name within the Taurus factory.

*FootNote- their Miami distribution center should be able to take
care of your problem without any hassle.

Maybe the follower is taller for the ten round mags, rather than using a spacer. Possibly you have a 10 round follower in the 12 round mag to reduce capacity. External dimensions don't necessarily mean anything, I have 10 round (Clinton) and 15 or 17 round mags that are exactly the same size physically.
