I really feel it was the Winchester Super X1. Absolutley perfect in 26" and built like a fine piece of art.
Otherwise.....a tricked out 1100. Easily modified to suit your style and the softest gun on the range.

I run a Beretta 390 Sporting model for skeet and sporting clays, but I shoot my Winchester SX2 just about as well.

My 1187 suits my needs perfectly.
It's really all about what gun fits you best. Try a lot of them before you buy, so you won't have to correct too many bad mounting and swing habits in the future.

Get a Benelli. Lightweight, semi-auto and no gas cylinders to clean
11-87's are great!

Beretta 391 Urika. When you absolutely, positively have to kill every clay target in the sky, accept no substitutes.
The nearest Benelli would be the SuperSport. However the Benelli's inertia action while easier to clean is less accomodating to lighter loads than the Beretta and has more felt recoil. It's also more expensive than the 391.

I've sold the last of my Remington 1100's. Great guns from the past, but just not up to the competition anymore, especially the new ones. Beretta autos are being used by many of the pro shooters everywhere...

I have a whole heard to choose from.
Benelli M1 and a new M2 set up for IPSC. Have yet to run 25 straight at skeet. Stuck at 24. They are too light and whippy with 21 inch barrels. A 28 or 30 barreled M2 might be a real good choice.
Browning Gold. Very soft recoiling. The auto load feature is nice. Is on the heavy side. A few 25s at skeet, many in trap. I shoot a lot of SC and 5-stand with it. This would be my #1 choice. The gun for Sportsmans Team Challenge. Basically a SX2 that auto loads like the old A5s.
SX1. Never shot trap with it and only once at skeet. Good gun.
Benelli M2 Super Sport. Great for sporting clays, a touch light for skeet and trap.
Had an 1100 for a while. Fun gun but not 100% reliable. Broke a lot of birds though.
It all comes down to what feels good to you.
When I want to slaughter clay birds, I use my Browning 525 in 12 or XS in 28. As son as my new Spolar shows up, I plan to make a lot of noise. The hulls are starting to pile up.
