semi-auto vs revolver for conceal and carry

I've known several women who prefer large semis to wheelguns, so who knows. It's impossible to pick out a CCW for someone else. She should get some training and lots of range time with that Ruger.

hopefully this will provide some info you can use. I have 5 sisters - one flat refuses to have anything to do with firearms period but is not opposed to 'sporting purposes' use of - I suspect due to the many good meals of game, birds and venison/bear my Dad and I provided the foundation of with our guns.
another didn't care for any pistols at all except my Taurus 92 .22lr 4" bbl of which she enjoys plinking and bought her own that I insist she keeps loaded with CCI 'Velocitor'.
another didn't like the 'blast' of a .380 but found a .32acp Beretta acceptable and bought one that I insisted she loads only fmj in. she shoots maybe 2X year.
the other 2 enjoy shooting occasionally and have .380acp Berettas (they can hit with them too, good shots at 20') that they load one of my 'warm' jhp's in the chamber and fmj in the mag. none of them will carry (they live in low-crime areas) but they keep them handy in the home.

i try to advise most women against purse carry, what is the first thing a theif is going to grab in a robbery situation ?, and the all to common run by and snatch the purse, its difficult because many women where tight fitting clothes that make it dificult to conceal with most holsters and larger pistols, so i would advise she practice with something no larger than what she can carry on her person, mabye a small kel tec or berreta or one of the naa minis, not the best choices for man stopping firepower but at least it will be on her and not in her purse

in my opinion, guns should be a system. solutions to a problem.

like tools, all mine are dewalt. its nice to have a system. they work with each other.

In my house, the pistols are CZ, the rifles are ARs, and the shotguns are 870s. the rest are toys.

mag interchangability, 22 conversion kit interchangability for the CZs and the ARs, common caliber that is easily stocked for all the guns, manual of arms commonality, and after the dollar collapses, you betcha... parts interchangability.

if the cops take your gun after an incident, sure would be nice to have a backup, that is the same type / mag / caliber.

just my take, your first gun in my house will be a system gun, if you want a SECOND gun, personal preference is your prerogative.

Fox brand pepper spray for my wife if she wont / cant / doesnt think the threat level is high enough to carry in purse. a little canister of that will fit anywhere. :)

sorry, obviously do it however you like, but thats how we roll.

Rules Fro Picking A Carry Piece

  1. 9mm or larger.
  2. Fits the hand.
Let her pick out what she wants. Take her to the range and rent as many different guns you can find.

From a female point of view, picking a carry gun - pardon the expression - is like picking a bra.
