Are revolvers inherently more reliable than semi-autos?

Certainly not on a revolver! :)

No, that would be the cylinder not being fully closed. Which is a malfunction I have had with a revolver, dirty reloads (lower power Unique .38 spl) prevented the cylinder from closing, and it actually took more to 'clear' that malfunction than any I have yet experienced with one of my own semi auto handguns

I know this debate is never going to be settled science. Having said that, I would be really curious to know which is more reliable with an actual round count between malfunctions type test.

I fall into the category who believes that revolvers are more mechanically reliable. Having said that, I probably pop off 2-4 times the number of rounds on my semis at the range than I do with my revolvers. Is my experience simply because I shoot so many more rounds with semis than revolvers? Would I experience more malfunctions with my revolvers if they had higher round counts?

The question I would like answered (which for me personally would settle the debate) is which platform has the highest average number of rounds fired between malfunctions. I would still be willing to bet real money that the revolver wins. Unfortunately, unless a lot of folks jumped on board, the pool of guns tested would be too poor to hold any water.

One thing that is getting too much attention here is which one is better or makes more sense to carry. That wasn't the O.P's question.

I can -- but I don't have to. I SAW them. Many of then went into a holster when issued, and were never taken out until they were turned in a year later. These guns were drenched in monsoons, covered with mold that was just wiped off the holster (but not the gun) now and then, and so on.

When Dock Bahnsen (later a general) was shot down, they kept trying to locate him, but couldn't find him. What was happening was the gunships were making passes at the NVA around him, and Doc, instead of waiting for the slick to pick him up, would charge the NVA, running along under the gunships.

He quit when he got a shot at an NVA and found his gun frozen solid.
And I thought the REMF's in my unit didn't take care of their issue weapons.....:what:
