I really want to find a semi auto rifle in 6 to 7mm calibers, is there any besides the myriad of Armalite/Stoner derived designs and the AG42? I'm hopefully looking for one that can be easily acquired at a budget of $600 or less, any ideas? Calibers I definitely am looking at:

.260 Rem
6.8 Rem
6.5x55
7mm Mauser

Any ideas/suggestions?

UM...
don't know what to say, they are there, lots of different guns
those are mostly obsolete military, hunting, and except for 6.5, traditionally bolt action rounds. That said, I do believe that a AR-10 platform will run most of those.

Jp lrp07.

Most of those cartridges are expensive. If you shoot a rifle with any amount of regularity, it won't be long before you've spent more on ammunition than on the cost of the gun. You may as well buy quality once and be done with it.

@Ian

The FN49s, do they clean easily? Furthermore, what stripper clips can be used with them?

@Justin

Very funny, but 3000 is wayy out of my price range haha.

I may go with an AG/42, but I've heard cleaning is a PITA.

They're no harder to clean than anything else. The Ljungman isn't really difficult to clean, but it has an action that definitely takes some getting used to.

I do not think Justin was trying to be funny, he is trying to tell you, you are jumping into a very expensive pool,

if you can afford to shoot those calibers you might as well make that time as productive as possible with a decent rifle.

I think his point may have went sailing over your head :)

The FN-49 breaks down to clean about as simply as a FAL. Not quite, but close. Good rifle, my gunshop has a beautiful 7mm Venezuelan I've been tempted about... But I don't shoot enough 7mm to warrant buying it.

I'm not looking for a new production necessarily, thats why I said besides Armalite/Stoner stuff, I appreciate older guns more anyways, they don't make them like that anymore and the history is neat too. Now to start window shopping I guess
