Semi or bolt, which one do you shoot most often?

the only long gun i that i have both a semi and bolt in (and a lever as well) is a .22lr. i shoot the bolt way more often than the other two, but go through more rounds if shooting the semi. i really enjoy the challenge of precision shooting with the scoped bolt gun. however, i'll likely be focusing more on field position shooting with the semi and irons in days to come.

I fall in the category of shoot more rounds through my semi-auto .308's but actually take out my bolt .308's more often. As for .22 LR... I shoot more rounds and more often with the semi-autos.

From most to least:
1) muzzleloaders
2) bolt

I shoot bolt rifles far more often. More rounds through too.

A lot depend on what I'm going after. If I'm looking to kill coyotes I'll grab my 5.56, or 6.8 SPCII AR15 with a scope. If I'm shooting P-dogs It's my bolt action CZ 527 in .223. The AR gives me a quick followup shot if needed on a fast moving coyote. I don't need the speed against P-dogs, or ground squirrel.

For centerfires, it is the bolt. for 22's, semi auto.

Well, I have 4 Semiauto rifles in different calibers, and 2 Bolt action rifles in the same caliber. The semiauto's will always get more trigger time for me.

I also have only one semi-auto rifle, an accurized 10-22, but my bolt actions get more use.

I don't have a bolt/semi redundant chambering (outside of a .22), but my 6.8 SPC AR build years ago has relegated my bolt guns to nostalgia use only. Though it is semi, I still focus on aimed shots and building my proficiency.

Answer

I have two .308's. One is auto and one is bolt. The bolt is what I hunt with so I practice with it more. Also, and significant for me, the bolt action is easier to clean.

3 semis and 5 bolts, I shoot the bolts more, they are vintage mausers and more fun and hold a certain allure about them.
Now if I had an M1 Carbine, M1Garand, M1A or a Hakim this story might be reversed

Semiautomatic rifles are what I use for any type of target shooting or hunting.

M14S, M1A-A1 Bush rifle, M1 Carbine, and 10-22's.

I had bolt action rifles chambered for 308 and 22lr, but sold most of them off, as they were sitting in the safe collecting dust anyways.
