Schumer, Lautenberg and Feinstein kept blocking this bill.

It would not have passed the Senate.

The NRA and the Republican leadership knew that.

Some folks on hear apparently do not.

Please elaborate.

I don't recall ever hearing any talk of, "hey, we want to pass this but these morons won't let us," during the whole Republican control era.

Twenty six people complaining on this thread, and how many actually emailed their reps?

Most here complain about a overreaching federal government … and much of that overreaching in accomplished by a stretched reading of the commerce clause. These bills also base their authority on the commerce clause.

If it not OK to continually expand federal power under commerce clause, it should not be OK to do so even if you like a particular expansion.

I would be much happier if the Bills said the law was being past pursuant to the 2A or 14A or some other legitimate source of federal power … but I just can not agree with more commerce clause power – even if I like the general result.

excelent point
we may like the outcome, but it is still giving the feds more power

Well, it's true the Repubs DID VERY LITTLE for us. I think they knew it was politically impossible because of the for sure stream of Democrats whinning lies to their supportive press that would have produced a mindless "ground swell" and phony "polls" against anything reasonable.

But, what they DID NOT DO for us was a firm positive! They didn't extend the Clintonista's "Assult Weapons Ban" and allowed their silly "over ten round magazine limit" to expire. Even so, the liberal crowd did their best to convence the public that the sky would soon fall and everyone would be shot before it hit the ground.

I would note that the 2nd Ammendment wasn't directed at hunting. It was directly intended to insure the "people" the means of defending itself against the military power of the government. Every time we defend our rights to own "hunting rifles" we conceed them the point that military weapons belong to the government, not us. And that's wrong. Then and now, a "well regulated milita" is one with effective arms, not a militia burdened with government regulations as liberals think they should be!
