A recent thread asked a simple question.
What is your favorite shotgun?

A. Wood & Blue.

I honestly cannot answer any better than "Wood & Blue".
I guess I hit another one of those dimensions my Mentors & Elders said I would.
When asked what these dimensions were they simply said they could not honestly explain these, but I would know when I was going through one, in one, and about to enter another.

I can rattle off guns, extremely sentimental to me due to the journeys they have allowed me to take, and the people along on the journey.
From the time I was not as tall as a kids shotgun, much less a kitchen table, which I had to sit on a big thick dictionary and perhaps a few more books added, to even eat at the table...wood and blue shotguns were a part of my life, as were other guns...

Single shots, SxS, O/U, Pump, Semi, even Bolt actions - in wood and blue.
I've shot shotguns from 8, 10, 12, 16, 20, 28, 24, 32 gauges and .410

Yes I have put as much as 300,000 through a shotgun, and while this one is very special, I can think of another I put that many through as well, and another with 100,000, and that one I only shot 5 times..and that time...and we...and the dogs were great that day...

Folks would place bets on some guns I favor, and the gauges too and they would be correct.
Then again it may surprise some as what some others are as well.

I done turned into my Mentors & Elders I guess. Some were the age I am now, when I was trying to climb atop the books in a kitchen chair to eat.

All this gun stuff, including shotguns, was never about me, just like it was not for the Mentors.
It is not about the Gun/Shotgun so much as the people, the memories and passing it forward so one day others will feel as I do right now.

We couldn't shoot the Quail, it was too nice a sight to behold...

...the heavy snow, and the ducks just covering us up and we unloaded guns, never fired a shot and took it all in...

...that grandkid out there on the field getting a shotgun from grandpa, and that grandkid shooting his gun now that was grandpas and taking a target box home to show his mom...

...hot damn! That new lady shooter won the shotgun raffle, good for her...look at her grin would you...

...couldn't see too well with moist eyes, but we fired them reloads with cremated remains mixed in of another one passed on to The Great Quail Hunt...

"* head down* I am sorry , I did not mean to scratch your gun up , can we fix it? Does this mean I can never shoot it again, ever get to hunt again..."

Young 'un, its a shotgun. Thems ain't scratches, called Character and Soul.
Briars do that when one goes to Respect the Quail...now let me see you see you fell one out of this next covey up the way...
...look at that mutt would you, swinging them hips just like a floosie....
