Model 39 is a .22.
On all Marlins I have seen it is on the tang. On newer models it is on the top. On older guns it is in the bottom of the tang. You will have to open the lever to see it. I suppose on some of the really old ones it could be somewhere else but this is the only 2 places I have seen them.
