I just got a Marlin camp 45 yesterday and I was wondering where I can find a website to look up when it was manufactored based on the serial numbers?


What is the average price range for a used Camp 45?

Starting in 1973, the year of manufacture maybe determined by subtracting the first two digits of the serial number from 100:
Example: SN 2512345 would have been made in 1975 [100 - 25 = 75].

$350 is the going price for one with a cracked stock around here. (When the buffer gives up, the pounding of that heavy bolt will split the stock at the wrist in pretty short order!) With an uncracked stock it could be a little more. Be sure to strip and clean and check the buffer before you shoot it. Gun Parts has buffers (the 9mm 45 and 22Mag use the same buffer)

I made a buffer from an old piece of tire tread while waiting for my new buffer to arrive. Also an extra power recoil spring from WolfSprings is worth the few bucks it costs.

And be carful where bystanders are concerned! With the factory recoil spring mine would throw brass fifty feet! The extra power spring cut that down to twenty feet or so.

I could only find one on gunsamerica. It looks like a neat gun and I have shot a camp 9 a few years ago and really liked it for a plinker. The guns in nice shape,.

Good question. I bought one when they were still in production for the mag interchangability with my 1911's. I have Wilson, McCormick, and Colt factory mags. All are reliable in my handguns, but only 4 or 5 (out of around 20 or so)would function in the Marlin. Traded it off. Mine seemed to be the exception.

Local shop has 3 9mm carbines in the $350 range. No .45's though.
 
99% seem to work fine with any 1911 mag (according to internet posts, anyaway). Mine didn't.

Be aware that some aftermarket companies modified them to work with other mags, such as the double stack Para-Ordnance or the Sig 220 mags.
 
Not all 1911 mags will work in a Camp 45. You need mags with a squared off notch in the top rear. Some 1911 mags have a rounded notch, and these won't lock into a Camp 45.

I've had good results with Chip McCormick mags in mind.

Definitely replace the OEM recoil spring with a Wolff 21# spring.

Blackjack Buffers sells newly made replacement buffers.
 
I have the 45 and never really found it that reliable. The first thing I had to do was remove the magazine safety mechanism as it was constantly binding up.

The mag release and bolt hold-open are ridiculous and certainly not designed for intuitive use.

Detail stripping is a nightmare, but doable.

If I was to suggest anything other than the above tips, it would be to watch the condition of your hammer strut and hammer strut bridge. Flimsy sheet metal bends like you wouldn't believe!

Were I to do it again, I would save the money for an AR or SKS.
 
The 45's sell for 5-600 on the online auctions, they are highly sought after to the nfa guys to SBR and suppress.

Is there any other way to look up my camps serial number? The subtraction from 100 does not work as it comes out to 55. Any suggestions?
 
pull the mag safety linkage out of it to improve the trigger some. make sure the buffer is in good shape and get heavy recoil spring. I haven't had trouble with the hammer strut bridge - yet. I think it's linked to the buffer condition. wondered about silver soldering 2 together to strengthen. shoot hard cast slugs out of it and save the rifling, it's dirty and requires some cleaning but they shoot good. post if you find the mag conversions for the .45
 
Does your serial number start with a zero? As in "045xxxxxx"? If it does yours is from 1996.

My Marlin Camp Carbine .45 serial number starts with "05". Made in 1995

Blue Book says the Camp .45 was made 1986-1999.
Last MSRP WAS $443.00
High visibility orange front sight post with cutaway hood was added in 1989
 
Beware of the Camp .45 breaking your wood stock if your recoil spring is weak and/or your bolt buffer is old and beat up. The wood will crack at the back of the receiver area on top.

I bought a Choate folding stock for mine so I don't bust my wood stock (Which is no longer made). It's not bad for a folding stock
