I just recently obtained two Thermold magazines in a trade along with a Bushmaster Dissy. Hopefully I'll get out to the range and give her a good test run tomorrow!

I'm just curious, do any folks here use Thermold or any other polymer mag for defense, or do they stick to the tried and true USGI?

The used Orlite mags I got from CDNN for $10 each have been stone cold reliable in my M17S and so I keep one in the well and one on the nightstand with the gun by my headboard. I was going to get USGI mags for the home defense role, and still may, but that purchase has been delayed by the reliability and low cost of the Orlites.

ORLITES SUCK - plain and simple! Turn to "crap" in the dictonary and you'll likely find a picture of an Orlite magazine.

My Thermolds have been OK, but I personally wouldn't rely on anything but USGI...

I just got rid of the last of my Orlites. The only jam I ever had in my ARs was with them.

I replaced them with a bunch of steel British Royal Ordnance SA-80 mags from ammoman.com that are now my primary range mags. These came with black "anti-tilt" followers and have been 100% reliable. I would not hesitate to use them in a primary self defense role.

My primary go mags are a handful of green follower Labelle's that I bought NIW. I only prefer these to the SA-80 mags because they are lighter.

USGI 30-rounders for me (got five of them from the AR-15.com EE). Really, when they only cost about $20 each shipped (and that's on the high end), there's no point in using cheaper mags.

I've used Thermolds and USGI for quite some time. Never bought any Orlites. Overally, I would give the reliability edge to the USGI mags. The Thermolds aren't bad mags at all, but I've had more stoppages with those in my magwell than with the USGI.
