Serious mistake. Yugo Mauser m24/47

The discoloration is from the dirt/grease/cosmoline that was in the water before it evaporated. It is not from the heat.

It's a M24/47... Hope it still has that adantage. No it didn't turn a straw color, more like light gray, and two pieces turned blackish blue, the threads on the extractor turned a little brassy tho, but not dry looking, more oilyish.

You didn't hurt it. Maybe the pan it was in. I have one of those, and the great thing about them, besides the craftsmanship, is that the bolt and receiver numbers usually match. DO NOT replace the bolt or any of the parts. I use hot water out of an electric kettle, followed by gas and w.d. after to prevent rust while I fool with the parts. I do any cold blueing needed right after the hot water. Getting a new firing pin spring, why not?, is probably a good idea even without your screw-up. Surplus ammo is still kind of cheap. Have fun.

Went to the range today, shot 46 rounds, no problems. In fact landed a 200 yard headshot. Lovely. Thanks guys. Maybe i will get that spring, any idea where to get it? Btw there's no scope on the Mauser.

Btw what's the best way to get the cos off the wood?? I was using steam and wiping it off, but it's like the stuff doesn't stop comin thru.

After your experience with the small metal parts, the last thing I would want is to do is remove the oil to the point where the stock dries out and cracks. Be careful.

I don't know how hot it has been in NY but here in the desert we have the advantage of taking the stock, putting it in a black trash bag and setting it in the sun for a day or two. Once it is done you can sand it and smoothing and then apply oil to it and finish it to your liking.

Oakwood trading post outside of Troy NY. Great selection btw, they have the 8mm Mauser ammo on sale. I was wondering if I can get ammo for this gun at walmart, or some other store, the trading post is closed on Sunday.

Our local WM doesn't carry 8x57 ammo. I buy S&B and Prvi Partizan ammo online.

Boiling gun parts on the stove won't hurt, but it will get you hurt. Womenfolk don't take too kindly to stuff like that. They also get touchy if you try to bake on paint finish in the oven.
