setting up my shotgun for deer?

Take a look at the "burris speed bead" sight. You can use it to hunt with slugs or shot, actually made to help with upland game. Mounts between the stock and the receiver. As for the weakened right hand, Boyd's gun stocks makes a thumbhole stock for the remmy 870 and many other brands also. aj b

Depending on range, and the size of your deer, and if it's legal where you are ( I can give thumbs-up on all three, and would be tempted to try it with a good 12ga), you might just put a full choke in the shot barrel and use 000 at handgun-hunting ranges.

if i put a drill and tap top rail on the receiver, will this block view of the front bead sight?.. im curious about that...

anyway, this season i dont think ill have the money to go with a rifled barrel and buy sights on top of that.. i was thinking a relatively inexpensive red dot on top of one of those side mounts that bolt through the receiver where the trigger group pins go.. i could put a red dot on this mount with rifled slugs for now, and when i go back to shooting duck and gease i could simply remove this, and have a fiber-optic front sight

Jason, that is what I have on one of my 20 gauges. Saddle mount with a red dot on it. Have had good success with it. Plus when I do go pheasant hunting (not too often last couple years), it's just changing a couple bolts.

As far as the drill and tap on the receiver, my 935 is standard drilled and tapped. If you leave your bases on it will probably block the front bead. But you can always remove the bases and put shorter screws back in the holes.

Get a saddle mount, a cheap scope, and a box of slugs. Zero it and deer hunt with it. Take the saddle mount off and bird hunt. Repeat. My saddle mounted scope always returns to zero every year. You'd be surprised how accurate rifled slugs can be.

If I was in your situation; it would be an easy choice. Go with the best; and a Fully Rifled Barrel with Cantilever scope mount is the best when it comes to building a slug gun.
