We do it all the time with the family. Usually it's my son, brother/nephew and a few close friends. Just put out the guns/ammo and everyone uses whatever they like!
Diffidently safer too, as everyone was either trained by my pop years ago or by my brother and I then since then.:D

I always shoot and share but I usually go with 3-5 good buddies and we all have free range to use each others guns but if there happens to be some fellow shooters we don't know and I catch them trying not to stare at one of my guns I will offer to let them shoot it

I've let people shoot my :
Mossberg 44us(a) - was told it had a hair trigger... 2.5 lbs +/-
BHP
CVA Optima Elite .308

I've fired :
My first time with a 1911 (kimber)
M&P 9mm
Jerico Baby Eagle in 9mm
A stevens??? in .338 win mag (that was .... stout)
AR 15

I have yet to be at the range and not get an offer to shoot some other persons firearm.
Like wise I never refused to offer the same.

Shooting sports enthuiasts in general are friendly out going people, and most go out of their way to see that others have the chance to enjoy the hobby.

A guy I work with is who got me into shooting... and if it wasn't for him owning a small arsenal of various semi-autos from .22 to .45 I wouldn't have gone out and bought my own firearm.

I shot a Kimber 1911, Desert Eagle .45, Baby Eagle 9mm(also with a .22 conversion kit), an XDM 9mm, a CZ Rami something or other .40, and some oddball little cheap pistol with stupid magazines that you have to rip out to change/reload... it was something weird like .32 or so.

I ended up buying a blued Colt 1911 Commander .45... and LOVE it.

I've been to the range about 3-4 times since buying it, and the last few times I've let others shoot it, while showing interest and asking what they are shooting... and offering to see if we might exchange to shoot a magazine or two through.

I found a guy shooting a Springfield 1911 Target Loaded model in 9mm... I asked how he liked it, I love my 1911 .45 but am looking for a 9mm something-or-other next... he let me shoot his and I let him shoot mine.

That was the absolute softest shooting and most fantastic 9mm I've shot yet... and the other guy seemed to enjoy my Commander too.

Also, there was another guy who just bought a Sig P250 9mm who was just getting used to shooting in general, he got some safety and general shooting tips from the range officer, and after a while he was doing alright, but still shooting all over his targets. I asked how he liked his P250 because I was considering one potentially in 9mm... he said he liked it but couldn't shoot accurately with it at all, but it was his first time shooting etc etc. I asked if he would mind if I shot a magazine through it(I had my own 9mm ammo, I was renting an FNP9 to try out as well) to which he was fine with.

I couldn't hit crap with it... that DA pull was horrific:uhoh: But I was at least keeping it in a 12" group... at 25ft... ha! I asked if other guy would want to shoot my Colt, he was kind of nervous because it was a "big" .45 caliber... I told him that due to the weight of the gun it is really not terrible... I find it better than super lightweight 9mm pistols... 45 isn't as snappy... it's more like a quick "shove" than a hard "snap" from 9mm or .40. He wanted me to shoot a few through it so he could gauge the recoil of it by me shooting it... so I shot a few and he seemed impressed in that it wasn't crazy looking.

So I let him shoot it and he managed to get a 4" or so group at 25ft on his target... better than he had done with his own gun... he seemed very impressed with the 1911 platform and he said something about he may consider buying one in the very near future:D

Now I need to find somebody with a Ruger SP101 and LCR, and someone with an M&P 9 or 40 to trade with:D

I just remembered. Some guy let me shoot his 45-70 Contender pistol.

It had a muzzle break, so the recoil wasn't too bad. I don't think I would shoot one without one.

One time there was aguy at the range shooting some old, pinfire rifle. I don't remember the caliber or anything.

I wish he had offered me a shot.

I always have extra ammo for my .22's, and kids (and their dads) love getting the chance to use them when I move on to the bigger stuff, once I peek to make sure they're being safe.

Younger guys always love my converted Saiga, and older guys always love the chance to try out my M44.

Most of the local guys have never fired anything stouter than a .30-30 or a .243 deer rifle. Something launching 7.62x54R from a shorter barrel puts some shove in their shoulder.

Most of my guns have been fired by someone else. Everyone loves the Judge (3"), except THR folk obviously.
I had some old guy teasing me about my "plastic" gun (XD9). Talked him into shooting it. From the look on his face he enjoyed it, but did not admit it in front of his friends. :)

I got to shoot a Desert Eagle .50 merely by asking questions about it. The guy put a couple rounds in a mag and handed it to me. "Ya gotta shoot it at least once!"

Most recently I tried a Saiga 12. The owner was stoked to watch everyone bump fire it. Same guy was pretty impressed with my Mosin M44, but was leary of firing it at first.

I'm willing to let someone shoot my guns. We firearm enthusiasts are one big 'family'.

How were the .50 and Saiga 12? Always been a little curious.

I always do hand over my CZ PCR if someone asks, but I'm reluctant. That gun is for my hands. :)

I do still love have the AR guys puff up their chest at the chance to use the 'old Russian clunker'. The look on their faces... :D

had a guy shooting an AR. I let him touch off a single shot .308 with a warm load... he winced and said one was enough. His buddy thought it was hilarious. I warned him

I got to trade my GI 1911 for an awesome old winchester barrel-cocked semi auto shotgun once. Don't remember the model number. The guy called it "the widowmaker" and showed me how if the forend cap is loose then it would click when the trigger was pulled and then fire if you tried to open the action. Apparently a fatal design flaw.

I used to be all about sharing and whatnot...However, recently I have discontinued letting other people shoot my guns, including my friends. After one incident, I've come to realize that your average person with little to no firearms knowledge is irresponsible with guns. I don't care what anyone says, unless I've observed a person being safe and can display the qualities of being safe, you're not touching my guns. I don't care if you were "in the military" "are a police officer" or "go hunting with your daddy all the time," I haven't seen you handle or shoot firearms yet, therefore I do not trust you. The only person I trust with my guns is me.
