My mom has been a nurse for over 35 years, with a good part of that spent in the E.R. She isn't necessarily an anti-gun person, but she's always been afraid of them. So afraid of them, that I was not allowed to have one while I lived under her roof. This probably comes from her seeing the results of what a gun will do to the human body, and being exposed to only the negative side of guns.
So, I told her that for my birthday today, I wanted her to join me at the range and, suprisingly, she agreed.
We started out at the house, and I taught her the 4 rules, and showed her how to handle and clear my Mark II. Then we headed out. We took my Mark II, and rented a DA .22 revolver at the range as well.
When she first started out she would kind of recoil and cower a bit with every round she fired. By the end of the session, she had built up quite a bit more confidence, and was no longer visibly afraid of shooting. She actually even tried a .38 revolver that the guy in the next lane offered to allow her to shoot. She was also doing pretty good on her groupings as well (3-4" groups at 5-7 yards). Anyways, to make a long story short, she says she enjoyed herself, and she wants me to take her again
I am very pleased with the way it turned out, as I was kind of apprehensive about asking her to go with me. I fully expected her to turn me down outright. I am hoping this leads to her getting her own gun, as the area she is living in, has been going downhill the last few years and I would feel better knowing that she had some recourse if something bad happens.
Just wanted to share one of my best birthdays ever, shooting with my mom
Thanks for listening
