Well, I was putting the front sight back on my Ruger 22/45 (MKII) after applying a bit of luminescent paint to help my terrible eyes pick it up. In the process of screwing it back on, I get the HORRIBLE feeling of no more resistance right as it's starting to get snug. I then see that the screw has sheered off almost completely flush with the surface of the barrel leaving the shaft imbedded.
Mind you, I am ALWAYS very careful screwing things in, especially into aluminum, let alone a steel barrel. I am more than certain that I did not over-tighten it, and I am thinking there must have been some weakness/defect somewhere on the threaded portion that I was not aware of. I'm no metallurgist by any stretch.
So here I am, without any idea of what I am going to do. I was attempting to find some way of unscrewing it, but there is literally no material for anything to grab onto since it is nearly flush. Anyone have some pointers? Am I going to have to have it shipped somewhere so that it can be drilled out and tapped again?
