This is a newbie question but are shellholders interchangeable between different makes of single-stage presses. In other words, could I use Redding or Lyman shellholders on a RCBS Rockchucker press? Or do I have to use RCBS with RCBS and Lyman with Lyman?

Thanks for the help.

John

Yes, they are interchangable. Just be aware that shellholders vary in thickness, even within the same brand. If you have two shellholders, in the same caliber and brand, chances are they will vary in thickness and how far they will push the brass into the die. It's best to set up your dies with one shellholder and then mark that one as the one you use with those dies.

Hope this helps.

The other thing to consider if buying shellholders is whether you want to use a hand held priming tool. If you want to use one that uses a shellholder the don't all use each other's shell holders. I found out the hard way when trying to use Lyman Shellholders with a Hornady Hand priming tool. It would only work with RCBS or Hornady shellholders. (the priming ram adapter wouldn't fit into the hole on the Lymans)

Just my .02

Dave
