I need the shellplate for.45acp. Graf says the #1 is what I want but Midway doesn't list .45acp forplate #1. Which one do I need?

Of course. Midway doesn't carry plate #45 and Graf's is out of it. Just my luck. I'll get #1 as it also does .308 and see how it goes.

If you really want to load 45acp, get the #45 plate. The #1 plate was listed in the past for 45acp and now it is not.

The #45 plate came about due to the rising number of customer requests and complaints about using the #1 plate for 45acp. At first it was a custom item only available from the factory (and not advertised) then they finally released it as a standard product.

The #1 plate works fine on my LnL AP... and I'm using all sorts of brass. I have heard that the #45 is supposed to be "better" than the #1 plate, but I've had no issues with my #1 plate.

You could always order a #1 plate and if it doesn't work for you, return it. I used a #1 plate for 45acp and the cases fit just loose enough to be annoying and occasionally catch on one of the dies.

If "I" were to buy a shellplate to load 45acp, I'd spend the extra to get a plate sized correctly for the caliber I'm loading. The #45 plate was still semi-custom when I had an LNL-AP.

The #1 shell plate is for common head size of 30.06/308/270/ etc.
The 45 ACP has the same size head as the above cartridges.

I have loaded 45 ACP with the #1 on my LNL and results were just OK. I bought the #45 from Grafs and the results are significantly better. Fewer, hangups, fewer crunched cases, etc.

When I got the #45 I miked it and compared it against the #1. There ARE differences between the two. (I don't remember the specifics). The #45 shell plate holds the 45 ACP much tighter with less "wiggle" room.

I use the #45 shell plate.

I was having a terrible time with #1 shell plate.

Much happier with the #45.

I also changed my resizing die to a Hornady brand from Lee. The Lee has a smaller opening taper and would catch the brass.

Its a combo of the resizing die and the shell plate most of the time with 45acp.

My # 1 has worked fine for years, but it sounds like if you are buying one these days, the # 45 is the way to go.

I need the #1 for .308 so I have to get it anyway. Guess I'll give it a try and hope in the meantime that someone gets the #45 in stock!
