Shipping Automatic Knives

Suppose you purchase a knife (one knife, not many) out of state, and then bring it back home, traveling across state lines without the intent to resell it.

Under federal law you'd be fine. If anything, it may be illegal to sell to someone who's a resident of another state, regardless of where they currently are (I dunno if that's the case or not, though), but charges would be pressed against the seller, not you, in that case.

Shipment of automatic knives

I have been collecting automatics for the past three years. I collect only Microtechs. I have purchased from several different sites and have had no problems. Heck, my UPS driver, whom I have gotten to know, signs it for me and leaves it at my front door. I am not an E.M.T or a cop, just an average joe. If that law of shipping across state lines or selling to authorized people only was enforced there would not be a automatic knife company that could stay in business. I understand that it is a federal offense to ship autos through USPS. But most dealers ship UPS. I purchased one from one online site that shipped through postal service. I was not home and it needed signature required. Needless to say I was a little reluctant, but I had already paid for it. No problem but will not order anymore from them. One question I have is, how do I sell one of my knives since I am in a state that they are illegal. Any answers?

If sale or possession is not legal in your state, you already have your answer.

If interstate sale is illegal and shipping is illegal under 15 and 18 USC, you have your answer.

You can ship accross state line to police or active military personnel. How you go about proving the recipient is police or military is up to you and on their honor. AFAIK

If you look at some of the ads for the cheaper blades, they sell them as kits. Apparently, like a hi-cap mag, if they are in pieces, they are not a switchblade. The Benchmades come apart easily enough, and actually make a neat regular folding knife without the spring.

Sorry for the massive thread necro, but I had an interesting though:

Is it illegal to ship an auto across state lines if you ship the spring, and the rest of the knife separately?
