I'm looking to buy at least a dozen or so Rough Rider, or similar well-made import traditional slipjoint knives. I've purchased several Rough Rider knives and been very pleased with the quality. They're not Case knives, but for $5-10 they're great.

I just want to get a dozen to a score to gift to coworkers, specifically the smaller makes to meet the 2.5" blade length limits for federal buildings.

The main eBay seller, Yocom, who sells RR by the hundred each day, has individual knives go for $5 shipped occasionally, but doesn't offer deals that good on actual bulk purchases. Does anyone have contact info for any bulk dealer of RR knives (or similar good import makes) that can maybe edge down towards $5-6/per shipped by the dozen or two dozen?

Contact them and Ask!

"Them" who? As mentioned, I contacted the largest RR seller on eBay and the bulk price he quoted for 24 was more than I can get his stuff for individually on eBay, on a good day and lucky bid.

Did you mean RR? Their exclusive US importer is SMKW, and they won't give me the time of day unless I have a business license and sign up for a dealer plan with XYZ minimum purchase. I also looked into getting bulk deals from the big importers of Frost knives (which has a trad line similar to RR which is far nicer than the other junk Frost usually makes), but again their "dealer prices" weren't as good as eBay.

The best deal I've found yet is just bidding on a bunch of Yocom's stuff and seeing which one or two of ten I bid on squeak in for $5 shipped.

Try calling bladematrix.com
good people with a full line of RR.

Also a thought, the have a bunch of old stock, new in box Schrade real cheap. Madei n USA or Ireland. Might be a an even cheaper solution to your problem. Plus you get to talk to a real nice lady.
I admit I am enamoured of old Schades and have bought a bunch from the them NIB.
Great quality 1095 CV. RR is 440 C with a great heat treat and sharp out the box. But the Schrades may it your need!
And yes I gift them to special people.

PM me with any questions, brother. Good luck

MV,

Get a business license or flea market license and then you can set up accounts with the manufacturer or distributors.

Jim,

MV is talking about the least expensive slip joints of any reasonable quality, not just the cheapest knives available.

There's nothing I've seen less expensive than Rough Riders that doesn't qualify as junk.

HSO, I understand. But I have see many good quality pocket knives and RR at Gun shows and Flea markets at bargain prices. I buy them to give to people I meet that need a special Thank you. I usually buff them up ti give them high sheen.

Thanks Black Toe! I had no idea Irish-made Schrades were so inexpensive ($1.50-$2 at BladeMatrix). However, I'm kind of torn as to whether a Chinese-made RR with a pretty bone handle is a nicer gift than an Irish-made knife with a plastic handle.

Just not sure if non-knife people would prefer nice aesthetics over Irish heritage. Here's what the inexpensive closeout Schrades (in many different blade patterns) look like:

EDIT: I'm not seeing any non-Zytel Irish/US-made Schrades, but they're asking $6 for the Chinese-made "Classic" Old-Timers. I dunno, how's the QC on the new ones? I don't like companies putting old names on junk products, but I suppose if it's comparable quality there's no reason not to buy a Chinese-made OT, given that it wasn't exactly providing US jobs when Schrade was in Ireland either. Might as well support a Qing as an O'Leary. If it's $6 retail, perhaps BM can hit, say $4/ea if I order two dozen? Or again, maybe RRs just have enough aesthetic advantage, QC, and variety of patterns that I should just ask BM for a quote on RRs.

I'll vote for the Irish Imperial knives. I've owned a few and always found them to be extremely serviceable, if somewhat crude. EDC'd one for 3 years.

Look for Kingknives on eBay. He doesn't move as many as Yocom but his prices are similar. You may be able to work out a better deal.

I've bought RR & Marbles Sunfish knives for under $5.00 each.
