I am going to sell a gun that uses a special type of ammo. Of course the gun will go through an FFL dealer, FedEx, but can I ship the ammo in the same box along with the gun? Do they need to be separate?
Thanks!

Separate.
Both FedEx and UPS prohibit shipping ammunition with a firearm.
I disagree.Shipping ammo is way easier than shipping a gun. People do it everyday. I wouldn't rule out the option of selling together just because the shipping has to be separate.
To clarify this, YOU as an FFL can use USPS for firearms, but us mere mortals cannot, except under particular circumstances IIRC.I disagree.
Ammunition is restricted to Ground only and requires DOT labeling.......meaning UPS/FedEx and no USPS.
With firearms I can ship FedEx, UPS using Overnight/Next Day or other faster services or for rifles and shotguns, Ground. (or best of all drop off at at any US Post Office).
Anyone can ship rifles and shotguns via USPS. (Only licensed dealers and manufacturers can ship firearms other than rifles and shotguns.)To clarify this, YOU as an FFL can use USPS for firearms, but us mere mortals cannot, except under particular circumstances IIRC......
In fact I got it wrong, but I still barely trust USPS to get me anything larger than a flat rate box after multiple failures and issues, so I would never use them for a gun.Anyone can ship rifles and shotguns via USPS. I receive an average of 170 guns a month from UPS/FedEx/USPS. All three offer the same level of reliability. If you ship Priority Mail....who's plane does it fly on? (it ain't USPS )In fact I got it wrong, but I still barely trust USPS to get me anything larger than a flat rate box after multiple failures and issues, so I would never use them for a gun.
That's great that you have that kind of luck. I am well aware how USPS transports certain amounts of their packages - I have a hand in that process. I have had trouble with multiple gun-related packages (bullets, brass, accessories, etc.) getting "lost" or destroyed using USPS. When the contents have finally made it to me, they have tried to tell me that "things happen from time to time." Granted this is fairly rare in the greater scheme of my shipments, but I don't have these problems with the other guys, so I'll be sticking with them.I receive an average of 170 guns a month from UPS/FedEx/USPS.
