Shipping my lower reciever to myself: shouldn't be this complicated

Checking a gun at the airport is reasonably hassle-free. If the rules are followed concerning a locked case, simply check in at the airline counter, sign the red tag saying you promise it's unloaded, take the bag to the smiling TSA rep and make your way though security.

I never gave it much thought until now, but I'd declare a firearm even if it was just an upper. Declaring is way easier than explaining.
 
Thanks for the info. I'll check my lower like I usually do. I was willing to pay $20 not to have to hassle with it, but that's not looking possible. Thanks again.
