Shipping primed brass

Is shipping primed brass considered hazmat and a no-no as far as the USPS is concerned? I know UPS and Fedex are fine.

Use FedEx or UPS for that.

If you can ship ammo I reckon you can ship primed brass- would that be the same thing, legally speaking? Or is ammunition legally only the completely finished cartridge?

Years ago when there was a primer shortage, I wanted to send some primers to a friend. Oops, HAZMAT came into play.

But, hey, he's a friend, so I just loaded them into empty cases of the caliber he was going to use them for and legally sent them on their way through Fed-Ex.

Oh, it can be shipped, just not via USPS

I don't think it has to go full hazmat, it just can't be transported by air.
