I recently purchased a G19X. I had some old G22 mags and I know that the G19X, G17, and G22 use essentially the same frame. Read online that many have had success.

I went to the range and loaded up the G22 mag with some 9mm. It worked, tried a few more mags and all worked as expected.

I would never use G22 mags loaded with 9mm in a SD scenario, but as a range mag, it works.

They will probably work fine until the day you forget the G17 mags and only bring the G22 mags…

Similar experience here. Bought a 9mm conversion barrel for my G27 and a 9mm mag. They worked, but also the the original G27 .40 S&W mag fed 9mm without a hitch.

Sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you don't. Using 40/357 magazines for 9mm is normally fine for range use only. For anything else, use the correct 9mm magazines.

The issue with using 40/357 mags for 9mm is the feed lip width is different. 9mm rounds will sit a lot higher in 40/357 mags and that can cause issues. Another thing is that the wider feed lips might not hold the smaller rounds in.

In the end, you won't know until you try. Again for SD/HD and EDC, you are better off using the correct magazines for the caliber you are shooting.

Luckily my Glock is a 19X and the mags are FDE.

I would never use a 40 mag in a SD/HD scenario, just for the range.

I had a 19X. My son-in-law has it now. I forgot about the FDE mags.

I have the 9mm conversion barrel in my 40 S&W 22. I load one less 9mm round in the 22 mags and never have had any problems.

Used to shoot 9mm out of a G27 mag in a G26 worked fine. Wouldn’t depend on it. But for range use only worked fine.

Swapping bbls on a 22 to 9mm gave me many .40 mags to have laying around, they do work for the conversion, but not 100 % reliably so, range time i take several when doing drills, waiting for a random event to do malfunction drills.

Sometimes the hard seating of a .40 mag full of 9mm into the gun with the slide locked back will “volcano” a round or two. If it does this, the mag is usually hit and miss. If the rounds all stay put, it’ll probably be pretty reliable.

I personally wouldn’t trust the mish-mash of ammo and magazine for SD, correct caliber mags are still plentiful and pretty cheap. But Glocks are pretty forgiving, so many do. I say to each his own :).

    Stay safe.

Here is a photo of 9mm ammo loaded in a G23 40/357 magazine next to the same mag loaded with 40 S&W. Notice how much higher the 9mm rounds sit.
