The shooting occurred at about 4 p.m., one shooter, five to eight people shot. One has died. Video showed cops stuffing a cuffed man into a car, white male, balding, probably 40-50 something.

We'll hear a lot more about this one, but a classic comment was made by an employee, "I don't understand how this happened, we have good security. He must have lied to get in."

Putting a sign on the front of a Jewish Community Center or Synagogue that says, "No Firearms Allowed On Premises" translates to

"UNARMED JEWS: OPEN SEASON

I hope they didn't make that mistake.

I see the latest news where Israel is not going to try to disarm Hezbollah !! Maybe that's what they mean when they say that ntoo many NYC Jews have moved to Israel !!

An officer of the organization is saying that by eyewitness reports at the scene, the shooter got through security, said that he was a Muslim-American who was unhappy with Israel, and started shooting. 17:48 hours on KIRO-TV.

The suspect is Pakistani and lives in the Tri-Cities area of eastern Washington. It is not yet known if he is a US citizen or foreign national. 17:58 hours on KING-TV.

Edit at 18:00 hours: the SPD released an alert yesterday warning local synagogues and affiliated organizations to increase their level of security.

Too bad one of the 5 or 8 people were not carrying concealed. Maybe they could have saved their life and perhaps the life of the others.

A news report

identified the weapon used as "a shotgun." NFI

The shooter, a 31 y/o of Pakistani origin (citizenship unknown), has a prior criminal record, but no details are being released.

There is extensive discussion about security in the building, you have to be buzzed in, "bullet proof" glass at the receptionist's area. But according to an earlier witnes reports, "He must have lied to get in." Great security.

This would not have happened in Israel.

Sounds very similar to what happens in the Middle East.

This would never

have gone down that way in Israel. The shooter never would have made it past the lobby. He might have gotten the receptionist, but that's it.

The favored method of attack when the last Intifada started a few years ago was to pull a gun out and start shooting. That lasted for 3-4 incidents, til people caught on. There's a reason they use body-bombs.

Washington is one of the easiest states in which to get a concealed carry license. A clean criminal record, clean fingerprints, $60 and you're good to go for five years. Renewals $32. Apparently none of the politically-correct downtown Seattleites understood that the individual citizen is ALWAYS his or her first, and last, line of defense.

Not to generalize, but it amazes me how Israelis and American Jews (mostly, but not entirely) differ. I wonder how many of the stop-the-shooting-now demonstrators in Israel last weekend were transplanted New Yorkers?

Sheesh!

If one of the people being shot at was carrying and did shoot the man after he'd shot then the people inside the Jewish Center would have been condemned by Kofi Anan for "disproportinate response".

American Jews are extreme liberals. I've asked several Jewish co-workers and all stated that gun ownership is a redneck Christian thing. They would be loathe to have a gun in their homes and would never think of CCW.

I wouldn't generalize.

Plenty of American Jews are pro-gun (JPFo_Org).

BUT, many are latte-liberals. They aren't anti-gun because they're Jews though, they're anti gun because they live in seemingly nice, safe, suburban communities, and like every other latte-liberal, would crap themselves at the sight of an aggressor.

It looks like the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle is basically an old civic organization. The Chabad centers I know about would never have been that easy to breach.

No terrorism to see here, move along.

If it happens "over there" it's a terrorist ya see, but over here the guy is just plain crazy and not motivated by the Taliban/Hizbollah/wahabbi whatever.

I used to be friends with a Pakistani grocer and I helped him buy his first gun in America, so please don't miscontrue the above as anti muslim, mmkay?

No kidding. Many of my people make me seriously wonder how we've survived this long. I may not make it through the first thirty seconds of the next one, but you can bet I'll die on my feet with a weapon in my hands. Can't say the same for most of us.

My sister is Jewish, lives in Seattle and goes to the JF sometimes. As of tonight she still will not allow me or my wife in her house because we own guns. :barf:

DnPRK, I'm DEFINITELY not an extreme liberal. I'm armed, conservative, and Jewish :D If my state allowed for carry, both my wife and I would do so, dare I say "religiously" :p As far as this incident is concerned, they are now saying that the gunman pushed in behind a worker that had just entered the code into the keypad lock. To be honest, I'm surprised it took this long for an incident like this to occur. The level of anti-semitism on display has really been ratcheting up lately :cuss:

Another armed, conservative NY Jew.

Having had family lost in WW II, my family is very keen on not allowing more of us to pass into the great beyond in a violent manner.

According to Fox news his previous criminal record is of a sexual nature (exposing himself to women in public). They also state he was under treatment for Bi-polar disorder AND HAS A CCW PERMIT. :what:
