Today at the range me and my friends shot cans of pop as skeet and it was one of the most fun things i have ever done in my life. The place was already trashed up anyways and we cleaned it up so there wasn't a mess left behind. We got the cheap generic stuff but it was awesome. Just thought id share this with you.

Honestly, I never would have thought of that. What did you use to toss them in the air? Or did you just do it by hand?

We just shook em up so they would really explode when you hit them. Then we threw them up by hand. It was really cool when you hit them with a whole bunch of bbs cause they would explode and rain cola on the ground. If you clip them with a couple of pellets the pop shoots out the sides and spins.

Last winter, with snow on the ground and next to a trickle of a creek, we were shooting empties with the rifles, then filling them up hard pack with snow, tossing them and killin 'em with the 870. The hard part was getting a good throw through the trees.

That sounds like a LOT of fun! :D

I'd love to try that some time. All I need is a shotgun, a big, open space, and some cans of pop...

Shaving cream is my favorit for getting kids excited about shooting.

Well it still gets a midleaged guy going sometimes

or dynamite.

no.

that's a bad idea. what was I thinking?

If you have a coke or pepsi distributor nearby, you can go there and ask for their expired soda. Mine is very accomadating. It's a blast to shoot, and when you get done, you can sell the cans back to the scrap metal guys. Though, they do get a little confused when you show up with trashbags of empty cans full of birdshot holes.

From my personal experience, I recommend 7.5 shot. Out of at least a 26" barrel. Less than modified is cheating.

I did that for my last girlfriend, since they're hand tossed, they're easy to hit, and satisfying as heck when you do. One time, I really wanted to show off, for some reason (IIRC, it had to do with someone saying that a modern autoloader was far superior to a SxS, so I stole a line from sm, and said that it was software, not hardware, then had to prove it) so I'd toss the shaken cans myself, then grab the double off the table, load two from the belt, and pop the cans. Didn't tell him that I'm a cowboy shooter, of course...

how about water ballons and one of the big sling shots, talk about a springing teal!

I think there's a video floating around out there of the Benelli master exposition shooter keeping a can aloft until his magazine ran out.

Sodas are fun. I can never throw them high enough though.

Actually, this is the one time I allow firearms and alcohol to mix. Before I get flamed, let me explain:

Somehow over the years we've accumulated a few cases of various brands of old nasty skunky beer in cans, for free. Cheaper than buying perfectly good soda just to shoot. Really, there is no good use for this stuff. So we blow it up. Old skunky beer still builds good pressure in the can when shaken well.

And man do they blow when hit with 12ga.!

Also, 230 grain .45 ACP JHPs turn cans inside out. Literally. I hit a can with one of those and had three pieces of can to chase down. True fun!
