Finally took my Clements conversion to range today, I cast 50 conicals (.488) last night.
The gun is very accurate . I has a very big boom when shooting, Recoil lets you know it has powers changed nipples to T.O.T.W. Ones ,Ignition is very quick with 45 gr of 777 fffg. Ball ammo at 50 gr is very accurate with a loud report.

I wish the $1200+ for the conversion was nothing to me as I'd have mine converted too.

Tim,
That's really quite a nice setup!! I'm sure it's as much fun to shoot as it is to look at!!
I've always liked Hotrods!!
Hmm . . . . . maybe you should send it to me for "goonerizing"? Lol!!

Have fun!

Thanks , They laughed at when I used caps to clean chambers before shooting. They weren't. Laughing a few min later ,the look of horror ,shock and amazement on their faces. The recoil is more than my 44 special but not quite the 44 mag level. But the boom is tremendous .

Sigh, I am one of those stubborn, for no other reason, bp only curmudgeon

Tho I may if I can't get the load I need! I wrote down your load. How accurate was it? Did u chrono it?

Timtoolman - interesting that they laughed when you cleared the nipples by capping them. It's a standard procedure for percussion fired black powder gonnes.

I go with the load data Dave Clements supplies with the gun, I don't have a crono.the load data is also on Clements Site under Ruger old army/conversion.

I was the only black powder shooter on the range that day. The others were banging away with their .357,44, 22's that day Gary, it was amusing

Very good indeed! Where were you holding for that?

Is the sight he places designed for either the conical or the RB or somewhere in between?

Since the front sight was replaced as part of the kit I finally sighted the gun for the conicals, .i had to use the upper part of front sight to hit center, I haven't tried a round ball that far yet, but I imagine it would be a little lower impact.
I also had to turn up rear sight 3 clicks. I couldn't answer what bullet type Dave makes up the front sight for specifically for , but it is taller than Factory. So I would have to say both

The conicals are from the mold Dave can sell you, it is also listed for sale at accurate molds website under Clements .488

Round ball target, It shoots them almost as good, again sorry for picture on its side, so now it's close which is better a round ball or conical? The conical is a slightly tighter group.

I love that feeling! Sometimes when I bring out the 'ol black powder pistols, all the other range boys look at me like I've got two heads. Once they see how much more accurate I am than they are with their "spray n' pray" Glocks they shut up real quick.
