Shooting Clubs in Israel?

Hi guys!

Alea jacta est.

Yesterday I sent in my application form to volunteer for the Sar-El project. It´s a voluntary service for the Israeli army where you help out with all the simple chores around army bases, so that more guys and girls are available for frontline duty. If all goes well I will leave for Israel in the end of March and stay there for three weeks.

Since we have the weekends off, for exploring the country, I am wondering if there are any possibility to do some sort of recreational shooting as a "tourist" in Israel?

Don't know about shooting, but if you haven't been to Ein Gedi at Mesada and Masada itself, definately worth seeing. Close to the dead sea, hot and monochromatic, but cool.

Gulf of Aqaba (Eilat) is a super place to scuba or skin dive, great coral formations and tropical fish to see.

This is my first trip to Israel and all suggestions are highly valued. Those places sound very interesting. Really as far from the Swedish nature as possible... For two weeks now, we have had temperatures around -20 to -25 centigrades and some wind too...

You may find a civilian shooting range in any big city.

Rememmber , ammo is expencive here , one - 9mm round fmj is around 2 NIS/50 cents.

The ammo prices are unfortunately about the same here in Sweden. I will have to eat oat-meal for a month, I guess...

But it´s worth it. Would be great to try the Galil and Uzi, so I could compare them to my experiences with the G3, Fn-Fnc and Swedish-K.

Going from your local temperature to the desert is going to be a shock.

I know how far north your town is in Sweden, but surprisingly, it gets that cold in upstate NY too. They can go down to -40 to -50 C. near the Canadian border.

I'm glad, temperature wise, I live in southern NY.

I think the other thing you may find unusual in Israel is how many people, i.e., soldiers, security guards, armored car guards, are walking around with weapons. When I was there all the military, and they were everywhere, had Uzis with a magazine in and another attached at a 90deg. angle so you could see it was loaded. Even on a pass, out on a date, it seemed they still carried.

Ask the pretty girl if you can look at her gun, might make an interesting pick-up line.

Regarding temperature, Sweden has a lot of help from the Golf Stream.. Without that we would have perma frost.. 40 degrees really ruins your day... Especially if you have to "go to the bath room" outdoors. The shrinkage....

I look forward to see the open carry you describe. Get me right. I don´t like the reasons they need to be armed all the time, but I like the trust given by their government. Not like in Europe, where politicians and people panic if they see a carpenters knife..

But the town where I did my military service was hardened. As long as we were carrying our FNC:s slung on our backs when we entered a store it was OK..

Actually, not all of Israel is a desert, just primarily the south in the negev.

There's even areas that snow.

I understand the biggest gun club in the country is called the IDF. You should check them out. I particularly like the 120mm Merkava Mk.IV they loan out to members.
