Shooting facility preferences?

I must be lucky to belong to a club where most of us are grateful and treat the range and fellow shooters with respect. Our bylaws direct every member to behave as range masters whenever they are present. I've had members correct me on more than one occasion for some minor rule infraction and I thank them for the reminder. My rifle range has been a God-send during our current catastrophe. No way would I abuse the privilege.

Mow the lawn.

If I’m shooting outdoors I go to the woods. No way I’d want to join a club if I could shoot on my property.

An indoor range is nice though. There’s two reasons I go. One is because of winter weather, and the other reason is 5’7” with long brown hair.
Ahh Two Legged hunting. Nothing beats that year round.......

The OP is one_of_the_silliest that I have read here in a very long time.

... I can shoot on the family owned property anytime I want, but it's getting to be a pain because the weeds are high. ...
o_O :scrutiny: Really?

Bushhog a bleedin' lane and get back to shooting.

Oh, and while you are on that tractor, spend a little extra time cutting a quick swath around the periphery. :)

Now I have to go and buy a new truck because I have noticed that the tread on the tires that came on my current truck is almost gone.

... and I will only agree to that last being a partial non sequitur. Some of the Silliness has rubbed off on me. ;)

Shooting on your own or a friend's land is nearly always the best option but not one that is available to me. Here in Texas there's little to no public land to shoot on unfortunately.

Ergo, my preference is to belong to a private, outdoor club that's much less restrictive than the typical public range here. I really dislike shooting indoors.

That was the conclusion I'd arrived at.
However, it's the principle of taking my turn and more while others don't hold up their end of the agreement, probably knowing I'll get aggravated and do it myself. Then they'll be back to shooting as well. OP was more or less trying to determine if public or private ranges offer less hassle than me doing extra work that other "partners" agreed to do.

You might find that cutting a lane and leaving it at that encourages/shames someone else into doing their bit.
You beat me to it Legionnaire.:)

Sorry Howland 937, it can be frustrating when you have to do the work others (especially other family members) agreed to take turns doing. But there’s another way to look at it - think about how frustrating it would be every time you pay to shoot on someone else’s property because your “partners” still aren’t taking their turns maintaining the property that is partly yours.
You know, as Legionnaire said, there’s a chance that by doing the work that needs to be done yourself, you’ll shame the others into taking their turns. When it comes to human nature, I’m way too much of a pessimist to believe that will happen, but who knows? I've been wrong before.;)

That happens at public and private ranges as well. We're suppose to police our brass, but not everyone does. We're supposed to place our targets away from the edges of the 4x8 OSB where the 2x4 frames are, but not everyone does and sometimes the backerboard falls down. We have a rimfire only bay with steel that some morons keep using centerfire in and ruining the targets. And most people I've met are considerate, but just last week some guy felt he was important and wouldn't stop shooting while 3 of us were asking for a cold range. I felt bad for the 85 year old man next to me that had packed up and had been patiently waiting to collect his targets for 15 minutes. I'm sure there's more issues, I've only been a member for 8 months.

And I'll add my rant(once again) to the uncontrolled shooting area I go to up in Roosevelt NF, in Boulder County..The county is just LOOKING for a reason to close that place..BUT every time my sons and I go up there(just yesterday), there is all sorts of junque, trash and stuff you aren't supposed to shoot at. Like cans, empty propane tanks, wood, etc..PLUS more than few with 'auto' firing weapons(sounds like). NOT commenting on the legality of bump stocks, but that is all the County Commissioners would need to tell the Sheriff to close it..so..if you go up there, bring a trash bag, please.
