I came back from the range a couple days ago and noticed that not only were my hands covered in the usual black gunge from the day but my fingers were completly torn up from loading mags all day. That coupled with the fact that it was freezing my hands were messed up for a couple days. Does anyone where gloves while they shoot? And if so any suggestions or is it really just something that is comfratable that has decent dexterity. This may be a dumb question but what can I say but, newbie.
:)

For indoor range use, I've had good luck with Bob Allen shooting gloves. The thin ones intended for shotgunners. I wash them out every month or so.

They sure keep a lot of the soot off my hands.

Good Luck...

Joe

I use thin black motorcycle gloves (not padded) when shooting full house loads from my Redhawk, which has the original wood grips.

killermarmot,
I've said it before in another thread, but I use the Hatch Operator glove.
I wear them daily.
Last time shooting was at a practical rifle match.
I've wore them from -10F to over 100F while shooting.
Couldn't be happier (that I know of). ;)

I've said this before also, but buy yourself a tight-fitting pair of simple leather driving gloves. They're unlined so that you can still feel, yet are generally warm enough to keep your hands from freezing. I've shot practically all of my handguns this way without any problems.

also consider mechanix or ringers gloves. They have great tactile feedback. I've been looking for a place that stocks the ringers XXL insulated gloves, but haven't found any that have them in stock.

I have a set of mechanix m-pact gloves I took the vinyl armor off of. I can pick up from the table with them. They are also the only gloves I've found other than kayaking gloves that actually ahve long enough fingers for me.

I use a pair of weather resistent golf gloves at the range. Gloves are supposed to grip better in the rain (thats what is advertised). Keeps the soot off, grip is good. It also comes in black (tactical golf gloves).

I picked up a pair of slightly padded fingerless weight lifting gloves. Works great for recoil absorption, and keeps the hands pretty warm in colder situations as well. The finger tips are still exposed, but that doesn't bother me, in fact I want the fingertips free.

The only gloves snug enough to fit my tiny little paws.

They also happen to have carbon fiber on them.

I wouldn't wear gloves while loading mags...seems like you'd lose a lot of dexterity. If I were competing I might wear a left hand glove so the barrel doesn't burn my little paws when I clear and unload my Beretta at the end of the stage though.
