Alright im gonna be hunting hogs that usually come at night to feed but im trying to lure them out in the morning with sour corn instead of the corn from the feeders we have put out for deer but where should i shoot a hog at that wouldnt mess up the skull and would take them down ? same as the deer im guessing but i would like to hear you guys :)

gotta go with just behind the shoulder. stop the old pump station and you are in business

The soft tissue right behind the ear turns the lights out instantly, if you can hit it. With an accurate rig & good optics, you should be able to swing it inside 80-100 yds or so. I do not care to risk perforating innards on hogs.

Well, there are a lot of variables in the answer to your question. My wife has shot several hogs up to about 250 lbs (live weight) with a .243. And all but a couple were head shot. Her largest was shot at a quartering away angle on the right side with the bullet entering behind the ribs and angling up into the chest cavity. It only ran about 70 yds, but we didn't find it untill the next day because there was no blood trail, and I didn't want to go looking for a wounded 250 lb boar (as it turned out) at night, with a flashlight and a bolt action rifle. Personally, I don't like taking anything but a head shot on a hog because I don't like trailing them, and I've killed enough of them, I no longer consider it a thrill, just meat. Place your shot further forward and lower than you would on a deer. Front leg, just above elbow, but low in the body, and keep your shot more toward the front of the hog if you're going to body shoot hem with such a light caliber. Quartering away shots can be especially deadly, but will most likely require a tracking session depending on the size and gender of the hog. Good luck and be careful....Oh and welcome to the High Road.
