This is an e-mail from a young SSgt in my squadron.

The joke around the shop is we need to deploy him someplace safe....like Iraq.

All's well that ends well...or as we say in the Air Force....Any landing you walk away from is a good one.

I was on leave at my father’s place of residence in Phoenix, AZ from 28 Mar 2006 through 3 Apr 2006. On 3 Apr 2006 at 0100 we were returning from getting something to eat. As we pulled into the drive way at my father’s residence a white mini van pulled up in front of his neighbor’s house. Two Hispanic males exited their vehicle and ran up to my father’s Chevy Blazer with 9mm handguns drawn and in clear visible sight.

The first gunman approached the driver side window where my father was sitting and opened fire. That is when my father, who worked in Law Enforcement, returned fire with his Kal Tech .32 on the first gunman. At this time the second gunman began to open fire on the passenger side of the vehicle where I was seated. My father shot all 7 rounds that were in his magazine to try and get the gunmen away from us and his effort succeeded.

The return fire from my father caused the gunmen to retreat to their van. However, as they retreated they continued to fire upon us and they expelled approximately 20 rounds with most of them striking the Blazer while my father and I were still seated in the vehicle. Amazingly, none of these rounds hit either one of us and we came out of this alive and unharmed. Needless to say that my father’s Blazer did not. It sustained major damage.

My Father’s girlfriend, Pam, opened the door to let us in and had already dialed 911. The Phoenix Police Department responded fairly quickly and took a full report of events. An investigation is underway to find out the identity of the culprits and their motive for the attack.

This probably wouldn't have happened if we had a law requiring a waiting period on white mini-vans...

Good thing they were in a Chevy. Those 9mm would have gone through a Ford like a hot knife through butter. :neener:

Wonder if/hope the GG's were wearing eye-protection, even regular glasses. Lots of flying glass there.Ayoob recommends glasses as everyday wear, FWIW.

Any indication Dad scored any hits?

Stay safe.
Bob

Any idea why they didn't put the Blazer back in gear and floor the accelerator?
