so the cover story in the LA Times was the discovery of a 2400 ft. tunnel from Tijuana to a warehouse south of San Diego, used for drug smuggling:

if you had to be the one investigating said tunnel, what would be your preferred weapon of choice?

the whole place is damp, with walls consisting of mud and sandstone. not being a scientist at all, i wouldn't know if such damp walls would just swallow any gunfire, or if enough shots could cause a cave-in. the longest straightaway corridor is about a half mile long, about 4 ft. wide.

personally i think i'd go with my sks, mainly because my other choices are my mn m44, or mossberg 500.

those walls aren't soft mud.
the tunnel was chiseled out of rock.

Load the mouth with ammonium nitrate, seal that end and make a 2400 foot cannon

I once went down into a Minnesota state park mine with a girl friend and her kids.

No more underground anything for me, thanks all the same. Once I'm dead and gone, I'd like my ashes scattered along the Pacific shore line. I do not want anything to do with burial underground.

hmmm... I'd put a flamethrower in with a remote sensor/trigger. or you could just pump in a gas thats heavier than air, anyone goes in would get about 100 feet and pass out from lack of oxygen. but if we're limiting this to guns, minigun, giggidi goo.

I think I'd be happy with nearly any long gun, but would consider my Peltor's to be indispensable.

Any rounds touched off in there would be really loud!

I'd take

A short 12 guage. Confrontation likely to be at close range. Not as much noise as most center fire rifles (but still loud), but more oomph than a pistol.

AR or M4 should work just fine. Some electronic ear muffs would be smart too.

See, in my soon-to-be old job as a prosecutor, I had the benefit of not having to enter crime scenes until they were secured. A sidearm was for my personal protection. In the upcoming judicial role, I'll check out the photos and video, with my guns close by to deal with unruly defendants. :D

If I had to go, an MP-5SD. Keep it quiet. MP-5 is accutrate for decent range, and I shoot one pretty well.

Well, if memory serves the last time we saw protracted combat in tunnels, our soliders prefered the M1911, a Bowie knife, and a flashlight. Of course, most of the Tunnel Rats went deaf, or otherwise severly damaged their hearing.

I so don't wnt to ever get into a firefight in a tunnel...

But if I had too, a FN P-90 with supressor, a FN Five-seveN, several spare mags', a good weaponlight, and the absolute best hearing protection available.

One ounce of ethyl mercaptan. Then monitor the exits.
