Shooting Indoors or Out

That's what all commercially owned ranges do. It's what the overwhelming majority of gun owners have to deal with. The number of people who have access to public lands or their own shooting range severely pales to the number of Americans who have no choice other than to use indoor ranges. Not many even have the option of an commercially owned outdoor ranges. There is one I can go to, but it's over an hour away and I'd litteraly pass 5 indoor ranges that are closer on my way there.

The most freedom we'll have with regards to drawing, shooting on the move, engage multiple targets is to take expensive training classes or start shooting IDPA. There use to be two indoor ranges that had IDPA matches regularly before COVID, but I'm not sure if they do that anymore. No outdoor ranges in my area have any shooting sports.
I do like my county range, I'm also blessed to have a friend with 20 acres and a range set-up that we use.

Missouri has a couple staffed and multiple un-staffed outdoor shooting ranges all over the place. My county has 2 un-staffed out ranges, 1 of which is black powder only.
I prefer to have a buddy shoot with me at these ranges as they can be pretty desolate.

I mostly use them to check the 100yd zero on my hunting rifles. I will also use them if a friend wants to shoot but not drive to my house.

You can also shoot anywhere in the National Forest as long as you are not near a campsite and clean up after yourself.

Excellent post and I'd actually forgotten about NF laws.

Shooting in the NF is kind of a little known fact. I participate / lead weekly Jeep / street legal 4x4 trail rides in the National Forest and have had friends test out their latest firearm on these trail rides. I haven't seen any established ranges on NF land, in this area though. It's more of setting up some cans and shooting them.

Best to check the regulations at your local National Forest.
Edit be mindful of your hunting seasons. Don't start blasting on opening day or deer season.
