a lot of threads have come up on the scarcity of certain calibers of pistol and rifle ammo being hard to find in their neck of the woods or the high prices from price gouging retailers.

has anyone decided to switch shooting sports and perhaps shoot another type of gun for their enjoyment? I'm finding shooting sporting clays and skeet to be more economical and gives me more time to shoot, in general, rather than try to hunt down the cheapest price on 7.62x39 for my AK or 223 for my Sig. I'm thinking those semi-autos will be expensive paperweights if the price of rifle ammo keeps climbing.

For now it is economical which means you must only shoot 50-100 rounds a week.

But be careful, skeet/trap/sporting clays are addictive and you can spend as much as you want on a good shotgun - especially if you start to compete.

First you justify spending a $1000 for a decent O/U and then you start shooting 250 rounds a week.

Soon you are up to 500 rounds a week, following the register shoots around the state and selling handguns to help pay for the Kreighoff or Perazzi you must have and before you know it your a shotgun (or two) that are worth more than all of you other guns combined.

I used to love to go trap shooting. It's fun and good practice shooting at a moving target.

Unfortunately my neck is now fused in two places and I can't really do it anymore. It's not just the tracking that is difficult but the recoil actually bothers me now. I might try going to a 20 gauge autoloader with taller sights.

I find I am doing more pistol/target shooting these days. I need to get into bowling pins or something. I miss trap shooting.

I had to give up trap and rifle shooting for the same reason.

I can handle a line, maybe 2 with light loads but the pain later is not worth it so I have gone full circle from handguns to shotguns and back handguns.

We shoot clays in the back yard all the time. Stock up on the clays when they are on sale and have em year round. Shottie shells are cheap enough though they have gone up in the last year by 50%.

Oh well. Runs a little under $60 for 200 clays and 200 shells.

FWIW, Ive always been a shot gun guy and picked up the pistols about 6 months ago.

Always loved shooting clays. My son and I do it a ton and is probably the one thing we do toether now. Been taking him to the 5 stand since he was 11.

Just buy a .22 rifmire rifle. Problem solved.
