Shooting Review "Shooters Model"

Went shooting today. Temp was 102. Just about passed out. Wanted to try two
Different ball sizes in the Pietta "Shooters Model" 1858 Remington . This I shot
at 25 yds free hand. Load 18 grs Swiss black powder , creme-of-wheat filler,
no. 11 CCI caps, Tersco nipples. The chambers are .456 dia and the groove dia
Of the barrel is .456. Progressive twist barrel. The first five went to the left all
In the white. This was with the .457 dia ball. I then tapped the front sight over
To the left about 1/32 inch. Loaded five with the .465 dia ball and as you can
See all went into the black and the group was a lot better. So I will be using
The .465 balls. I thought the gun was very accurate.

How did you "tap" the front sight?

Is the shooters model an adjustable front sight? it doesnt look any different but i cant see the top very well.

The front sight is a dovetail. You can move it very easy. I use a small brass rod
for a punch with a brass hammer. The sight comes very tall so you can cut it
Down to bring your point of aim up to where you want it. I take a center hold
on the black so I want my shots to go where the sight is pointing. Other
Advantages to a center hold , but I won't go into them here.

Beautiful Remington!!! Kwhi, are you going to tweak it some more or are you good to go? I know you shoot competition and can you use both your Remingtons in the matches or do you have to start and finish with the one?

I'm good to go as is. You have to use the same gun thruout a agg.

I like to see some of these shoots watching all these different Remingtons dukin it out. I have my 1860 Army Sig series with 20 grains of 3fg and two wads almost there. She's a real good shooter and it just need a little more tweekin. Maybe next year. Kwhi, are the competition shoots two hand or one or anyway the shooter choices.

They are one hand un-supported. Matches are 10 shot 30 min time limit.
There are two hands allowed on the 100 yd match and I think the Red Dot
Optica match, not sure.There is also a 13 shot Repical Revolver match with
The high 10 to score on the international target. That's the target with reduced
Size scoring rings, like the 10 ring is only about a inch dia. That's rough at
25 yds.
