Maybe you guys can clear something up for me. I was doing some research (online searching including this a couple threads here) and alot of people suggest actually using a completely different barrel for shotgun slugs than a regular shell. Is the the slug barrel is rifled, I assume if it is then the added benefit is increased accuracy? I haven't shot any slugs through my gun (870 Express Turkey) but does shooting slugs in a non rifled shotgun barrel damage the gun?

Hope that someone can help me out.

I have no reason to think that it would. I have A Police 870 and I can shoot slugs out of my barrel just fine. Just to be sure, I would consult your manual.

You metion my gun (870 Express Turkey):

Some turkey barrels are bored for optimum pattern with
3 inch #4 shot and will shoot slugs with poor accuracy
and possible damage to the barrel.

A plain cylinder or improved cylinder barrel for the 870 with rifle
sights would be a much better choice for slugs than a turkey barrel.
That is one of the advantages of 870s and 500s: you can easily
interchange barrels as needed.

Rifled shotgun barrels do a better job with saboted shotgun slugs,
but the longest clear range I have found at my uncle's in the
mountains is 65 yards, well within the limits of the common Foster
atyle rifled slug and smoothbore barrel.

That was serious. To be smartalecky: shooting slugs The
shotgun may damage your tomatoes more than the slimy little
buggers would. Have you tried sprinkling salt on them?

I've had a lot more trouble with slugs on Lovey's Hosta Lillies than on tomatoes. Slug Go works, they went and have not been back since. However if you can't find Slug Go, I'd be thinking some rat shot from a .22 pistol would be easier on the plant than any size shot from a shotgun measured in gauge (or even .410 Bore)
