I have an HK USP Compact in 9mm, and as I shot it at the range today, I notice my point of aim had to be different thatn with a Glock 19 (also one of my guns).

I really like shooting the USP - it's recoil is very minimal for 9mm - about the same as for the Glock 19.

Anyway, for the Glock I aim with the front dot sight BELOW the target picture. But with the USP I find I have to put the front dot sight OVER the target picture (obscuring the target picture) to make the shot.

Does anyone else who owns a USP Compact 9mm do this? How do you aim your gun? Any tips or info would be appreciated.

Hmmm, you shouldn't have to put the front sight on top of the target when shooting the USP. Have you tried benching it to see if it is the gun or you? It could be that since the trigger feel between the Glock and the HK are so different that you might be inadvertently pulling the HK being use to the Glock's trigger feel.

If, in fact, it is the gun, there are different height front sights available for adjustment. (OE HK sights.) Might also want to try a different load to see if it is ammo related or not.

Thanks for the info. I'm still a relatively new shooter. When I compensated the aim on the USP (two-handed weaver stance), I managed to shoot consistently WELL at 10 yards. I used a mix of gun show reloads and Winchester White box. In other words, when I raised the slide up a little the bullet holes appeared where they should.

It's true the single action trigger is different than the Glock trigger. I may need more range time to get used to it. The guy next to me was shooting his Glock 9mm (17 or 19 I forget which), and although he did pretty well with the Glock, his shots with the USP fell consistently low and to the left.

That has a lot to do with bore axis/ weight distribution/grip.
I'd say a combination of the above.
I'v found that a H&K shoots fine with a loose grip, and the glocks that I've shot required a firmer grip.
I don't know why for sure, but I would guess a combination of the above ingredients.
Or maybe I'm speaking from the wrong orifice.
;)

My H&K USP9c utilizes the same sight picture. I find it no more difficult to shoot with it than any other gun. My other guns, which hit just above the front sight are more difficult for me to shoot quite right because I'm more accustomed to the USP. You should try to get used to it, or find a higher front sight.

After shooting primarily full size guns, I shot my USPc 9 a little low. After a couple of mags, everything improved. I blamed me & the shorter sight radius ;)

you can call H&K and they will send you a standard front sight in whatever height you want for free. look in the back of your instruction manual for part numbers. the stock front sight is 6.2mm and they make a shorter 6.0mm one. not much of a difference but hey, its free and it might do the trick. H&K sights them in at 25 meters and most of us don't shoot that far. a little vertical deviation at different ranges is normal. FWIW my .40 compact requires the same sight picture that you're talking about. i've just learned to cover the target with the front dot.
