I've had my permit now for about 9 months and have yet to buy a gun. Mostly because there are a shortage of places to shoot around here and if I own a gun I think its important to stay sharp with respect to its operation. Well, I think I am going to start shooting in Springfield Ma.. S&W has a Sports center there that is open to the public. About 20 miles away but acceptable if I want to go once or twice a month.

I've decided that a 9mm will be my first gun. I think its a good place to start. The ammo is cheap and there seem to be plenty that would conceal well.

My biggest dilema is with respect to triggers. For a first gun, should I have a preference ? Do I want a DA trigger ? A SA/DA ? Do I want a Decocker ??

I like the look and feel of S&W's new M&P 9mm. It has a DA only trigger.

I also like the CZ P01. I believe it has a SA/DA with a decocker ..

Struggling with which one may be safer for CC and what might be better at the range for recreation Etc..

From what I've seen, the M&P is a fine first gun. I like the ergos and from what I recall, is like other striker fired polyguns w/ a consistent trigger from first to last pull. IMO, as a first gun, I'd go w/ the fullsize for the longer sight radius, barrel & grip.
Good luck

first gun

If this is your first gun, I might suggest looking into a revolver. They are simpler to operate and maintain and overall seem to have less problems associated with them than autoloaders. There are many to choose from and a lot of very concealable models are readily available. Good luck with your purchase. BTW, you might want to look into classes offered with regard to safety, maintenance and shooting skills..they're worth every penny spent.
