I've been wanting to rig up my Marlin 336 30-30 as a hog gun set up for 75-50 yds. -- or even shorter shots if need be. I bought a Burris short Mag 2-7 x 26 scope. Went to the range today and started zeroing in @ 50 yards. I should have thought of this, but I had to crank the eye piece way out in order to get it to focus @ 50 yards. Is this a mistake to expect a scope that is obviously designed for 100 or 200 yds parallax to serve at short ranges? Thanks.

I've run into that on occasion. But, once I got things "screwed around" and the parallax problem dealt with, everything worked okay...

Next item: If the parallax error is an inch or less, the odds are that it won't cause a miss on a hog. IOW, "Not perfect, but it'll work."
