I've had a High Standard pump for about 40 years and never really used it. I finally got fed up with seeing it in the back of the safe and decided to make it a HD shotgun for our vacation place in SC. So I used a tubing/pipe cutter and shortened the barrel to 18" and took about 3/4" off the stock with my chop saw. I'll get a slip on recoil pad and re-blue the end of the barrel and it should be good to go. I took off what little burring there was inside the (new) end of the barrel with a file and wet/dry emory cloth. Any other things I shold be aware of or look out for?

I've heard that the pipcutter route can squeeze the muzzle and that this in turn can lead to problems. Everyone I have talked to about it told me to use a hacksaw and clean it up with a file.
But if you have shot it since then I guess you're safe.

I did the pipecutter route after reading an article in Shotgun News suggesting it.

I used a flat file afterward.

The only tricky part was drilling for a new front sight.

Works fine.

You might want to drop a dowel down the barrel to make sure you didn't accidentally cut it down to 17.something inches. ;)
